Owen's POV
I drove so fast to the hospital that I hadn't noticed the police behind me. I didn't care. Something happened.
Something very bad and I could feel it was going to get worse. I pulled into the hospital parking lot and immediately got out of the car."Owen!" Anya called out. "What about mom and dad?"
I couldn't think. I couldn't talk. I just had to know. "Call them for me, hun! I love you!" I left her there. I knew she understood how much my only baby brother meant to me. I went through the hospital doors and there stood Miles, Zoë, and Maya. They all looked worried.
"I don't know how he fell," Zoë said scratching her head.
"Maybe he slipped?" Maya thought. I looked at Miles as he started to pace.
"No, no, the stairway is carpeted. He couldn't have slipped," I stared at him. Things at this point were intense and we were waiting from word from the doctors. I had to find answers. I had to know if Tristan was okay. I turned to see my mom and dad rushing in.
"Owen!" My mom cried as she ran towards me. I held her and we sobbed together. My dad looked worried. He paced and paced.
"Excuse me," I turned to see Maya at the nurses station. "We were wondering if Tristan Milligan is doing okay? He's a pregnant guy..."
"Oh, I'm sorry he passed away this morning..." the nurse said. My eyes widened and I rushed to them.
"This morning? No, you must have the wrong Tristan than because he just came in..." the nurse looked at her clipboard and looked up at us.
"I am so sorry...um, Tristan Milligan. Oh! They had to rush him to the surgical floor upstairs. I'll ring them for you..." not long after she did that, a doctor in blue scrubs came out.
"Dr. Karev," Miles said as he rushed to him. Everyone else followed behind.
"What's wrong with him doctor?" Zoë asked.
"Well, we don't know for sure. Right now, Dr. Montgomery is assessing what needs to be done. It could take hours. But once I know something I will update you all," he turned to the big door and disappeared. I prayed to God that he was okay. He was my little brother. I couldn't lose him. I don't know what I'd do without him.
Dr. Montogomery's POV
"Push one of epi," I said as I squeezed the jelly on his stomach. I placed the probe on top and listened.
"The fetal's heart beat isn't sounding too good," I was worried. Dr. Grey and Dr. Yang stared at me, waiting for my next instruction.
"Well? What's our next course of action?" Dr. Grey asked. I couldn't answer. I had to think. But I had to think quickly, though. Time was key. Every second we didn't do anything we we were losing them.
"Dr. Montgomery!" Dr. Yang exclaimed. I narrowed my head down and closed my eyes. Think hard, Addison. Think.
"Addie," Dr. Grey said. "It's okay. We have time but not a lot of it. You can do it, Addie." The words of my colleague made me realize that the answer to this equation was in front of me all along. I knew what I had to do.
"Well the family knows but not much I could tell them. How are we doing here?" Dr. Karev said as he entered the room. This could work. It's gonna work. It has to.
"Dr. Karev, are you scrubbed in?" I asked, turning to him. He nodded. Yes. This will work.
"You have to pull the baby out now. I'm going to hold the womb open and you pull the baby out," I told him. He stared at me as if I were crazy.
"If I do that, this kid will suffer traumatic blood loss. He'll be a goner," I knew that. He thought I didn't know that but I knew. I'm the worlds best prenatal and neonatal surgeon. I knew the outcome of what I wanted.
"Karev, I know. Who do you think taught you that? Do as I say! Dammit, your job is to do as I say. Take the damn baby out and I'll worry about the father," the doctors exchanged looks with each other.
"COME ON MOVE IT!" I yelled. The level of patience tested here was quite high but I knew what I was doing. It was worth the risk. I knew that if we took the baby out, I'd have to act within those crucial 5 seconds. I had to act fast. Dr. Karev had a firm set of hands on the baby and then he pulled. I immediately pushed my hands through, blocking any blood from coming out. It was useless. I turned to Karev who was handling the baby well. I snuck a quick look at her and realized how pink and plump she was.
"Baby's stats is okay. Just a beautiful thing...yes you are. You're a fighter kid..." Karev gave them baby his finger.
"Ah. She's strong. She's squeezing my finger," I nodded happily. I looked down to see that blood had been coming out. Crap.
"Lap pads!" I demanded. I had my work cut out for me but I knew that science would prevail. I pushed my hands deep and my eyes widened as I came across a bad boy. I stared at Dr. Christina Yang and she nodded.
"Okay, I'm gonna need you all to step back from the patient,"
"Dr. Grey, prep for sternotomy," she said as the nurses put her surgical gloves on. They dressed her in her gown.
"What is your plan, Dr. Yang," I asked as I sighed in relief.
"I'm going to repair the heart vessel with a bilateral balloon pump and then nature will take its course..." she replied with a smile. As she was preparing for her procedure, all our eyes fell on the monitor as the hissing noise and loud beeping grew louder.
"Oh my... V-fib!" Dr. Grey said as she grabbed the paddles.
"Charge to 200....CLEAR," I watched as they tried to revive him. Still no steady heartbeat. Dr. Grey shook her head.
"Charge to 250....come on, Tristan! Don't give up on me! CLEAR," and again. Still nothing. The monotonous beep continued. Dr. Grey looked at the clock. 6:47pm. No. don't say it.
"Time of death Dr. Yang got on top of the patient and started CPR. I watched as sweat dropped down her gown.
"Is his dopamine maxed out? If not, max it out!" She said as he continued chest compressions.
"Okay, Charge paddles to 300!" She said as he got off him.
"You Listen to me kid, you are not gonna give up. You hear me? You gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and I know you love her! I know...you wanna be here and watch her grow up You will be give up. I know you can hear me!" Dr. Yang took the paddles. "CLEAR" nothing. Still the same. She went on top of him and continued chest compressions again. Dr. Grey shook her head and sighed."Cristina, it's over...he's gone..." but Dr. Yang didn't believe so. As I turned away, I see Dr. Yang pound her fist on the patients chest.
