Miles' POV
I stare at the mirror. The 6 months had gone by quicker than I expected. At least for me, anyway. I adjusted my uniform and sighed heavily. Just a few more days till I get to go home my beautiful family and amazing friends. The past months have been crucially hard but I've managed. Being here has made me more stronger. I've made lots of friends. Some of which I'd call family.
"Excited?" My roommate and best friend Jeremy asked as he walked into our room.
"I miss my family," I tell him. Training has been hella difficult and hard. But I wouldn't have gotten through it if it wasn't for Jeremy.
"Hey, turn that frown upside down dude, we go back home in 3 days!!! Woo!" He cheers as he folds some of his laundry. I let out a low chuckle. Jeremy was going to graduate with honors. He is the top cadet in our class and I was proud of him. He really worked hard.
We headed out to the cafeteria and seen it decorated nicely along with lots of food and desserts. We walked over to our chief in command. He smiled warmly."Boys," he says as he takes his cap off. "Your class has been by far one of the best we've ever had. We're throwing you guys a little get together dinner."
"Miles, I'd like to speak with you privately," chief says as he pulls me to the side."Miles, I like you," he starts off saying. "The Royal Navy has never seen such a dedicated and strong soldier since General Sinclair. Anyways, I've talked it over with your superiors and he agrees that we'd like to have you aboard as we travel to Belgium for a conference on the Canadian-Belgium alliance. It's pretty big," I stared at him,
Shaking my head in disbelief. Me? Accompanying our country's top Royal Navy officers out to sea? I was beyond happy."Of course sir, I'd be happy to accept. But when do we sail out?" I ask him, hoping it wouldn't be soon.
"We sail out in 2 weeks, son," he replied. I stare at him. That is on such short notice. I'll only be back home only for a few days.
"Sir....that's...so soon. My husband, my daughter, my family? There isn't anyone else you can ask?" I asked him.
"We have tons of people to ask...but we wanted you. Are you in or it? I have to submit paper work today and if you're not interested, I have to find someone else," I turn to Jeremy and seen him talking to a young man. Maybe it would be good for me to go.
"Yeah...sure, anything to serve our country," I finally answer. His smile was as big as ever. The chief pulls me in for a hug. I can't believe I said yes but I took a oath. I'm sure Tristan will understand. But I just couldn't tell him now. I had to tell him in person. After the dinner, I ran upstairs and called home. Tristan went on and on about how much Hope has grown. She's saying completely sentences now. Things like I love you or time for bed. Tristan said one time she asked where's my daddy. After my talk with Tristan, Jeremy and I decided to take a run across the quadrant square in the field. It was almost 12am and the air was fresh. After our 5 minute run we decided to lay on the field and catch relax for a bit.
"Man...so you're really going? I heard a couple of the guys talking about it," Jeremy said. I meant to tell him but it slipped my mind.
"Yeah...I know my husband is probably gonna kill me but..."
"Well that's part of marriage. Sacrifice. You're doing it for the family. I'm really happy for you, bud. A bit jealous but more happy. It's gonna be weird not seeing you," Jeremy said as he sat up.
