In the beginning of high school, I was basically a loner. 'Transfers' (those who transferred from a different First school) took different classes to Dauntless-Born (those who attended Dauntless First). Uriah couldn't hang with me and neither could Ez and Tobias as they were in a different grade. And to top things off, I was the only Abnegation transfer. Everyone else seem to come from Erudite or Candor. Amity children rarely moved to Dauntless. But so was Abnegation. I was a grey blob surrounded by a class of black and white and blue. In the classroom, a Candor transfer sat next to me. She had choppy brown hair and dark chocolate eyes with beautiful mocha complexion. Pretty. Her black long sleeved top and white vest seemed to make her skin glow as she showed her pearly whites, obviously proud with the outcome of this school. I didn't realize it than but we were to become best friends.

Chatter filled the room, the pretty girl turned towards me, "You alright?" she offered. I nod.

"I'm Christina" she says, offering me her hand. I haven't shaken a hand in a long time. Abnegation greeted one another by bowing heads, a sign of respect. I take her hand, uncertainly, and shake it twice. Hoping I didn't squeeze too hard or not enough.

"Beatrice" I say. She nods.

"Happy with your choice? I know I am. You seem nice for a Stiff. Want to stick together? The other Candor transfers are either dick heads or weirdos." She says. Stiff is the name most factions call us Abnegations. But I tend to ignore that. I put a small smile on my face.

"I would like that." I reply.

After first period, which was just a plain introduction to the school, Christina and I made our way to second period; which we shared.

"Hey, don't you think that Beatrice sounds a little, how do I say this? Abnegation?" She questions, trying not to be offensive. I wasn't surprised, where she is from, she is used to expressing her feelings whenever she ever felt like it. I stifle a laugh.

"What do you suppose be my more Dauntless name?" I ask out of curiosity.

She shrugs her shoulders.

"I think you should choose yourself. I mean it's your name." She replies. I scrunch my eyebrows in thought.

"Tris." I say. She smiles.

"I like it." She says, taking my hand and sitting down beside me.

As lunch approached, I spotted Uriah at a table with his two best friends, Marlene and Lynn. Marlene was always polite when Uriah and I talked with them around. Lynn on the other hand, was well, Lynn. She was her unapproachable grouchy self. Marlene had whispered to me that day that Lynn didn't like strangers and that she was nicer when you got to know her. Uriah met my eyes and a goofy grin jumped onto his tan face. He waved over at me. That got Marlene and Lynn's attention as they turned around and saw me. Marlene grinned and waved whereas Lynn bowed her head, acknowledging my presence. I waved slightly back and followed Christina to a table. An Erudite and Candor transfer already sat at the table in a middle of a conversation. They boys turned their heads as they saw us sit down.

The Erudite transfer had shaggy blonde hair that slightly went over his eyes with green emerald eyes which shone brightly. The Candor transfer was a tall dude and looked quite like a koala with muscles, he had a babyish face with brown eyes and close cropped brown hair.

"Hello I'm Will. This is Al." The blond tells us. I nod my head.

"I'm Christina and this is Tris." Christina replies with a smile. Al looks in my direction.

"A Stiff?" He questions.

"Don't judge a book by its cover." A deep voice says from behind me. Christina and I both turn around as I see Uriah. A smile reaches my face.

"What are you doing here? Isn't hanging out with Transfers bad luck or something?" I question. He chuckles.

"It didn't stop my brother." He replies with a goofy grin.

"And look how he turned out." I joke. We both share a laugh. Christina awkwardly laughs beside me. I raise my eyebrows.

"Oh Uriah, this is Christina, Will and Al, my uh friends." I tell him. He smiles.

"Cool. I'm Be-" I cut him off.

"Tris." He raises his eyebrows at me in question.

"Well, I'm Tris' most amazing and anti pansycake best friend." He replies with his signature goofy grin. I smack him in the ribs.

"Yeah right." I scoff. We both chuckle.

"I have to be off but I'll see you after school?" He asks, already starting to walk off backwards. I nod my head in reply. He gives a thumbs up, turns around and races out the cafeteria doors.

"Well that was interesting." Christina states.

After school ended that day, I met up with Zeke, Four and Uriah. Last year Ez and Tobias explained to me that Ezekiel sounded like a baby name and changed it to sound more manly. Tobias didn't want an Abnegation name and since he got a detention within the first four minutes of entering the school, the name Four stuck and Tobias was glad.

That night, I dreamt a dreamless sleep.
