Telay lay in bed with her foot propped up on Taste's lap. He rubbed her foot gently with scented oils as they watched the sunset. Telay closed her eyes and enjoyed the special treatment he was giving her. He felt bad that she had sprained her ankle and he felt even worse that she had to spend the night in jail over his mistakes, but it was something he benefited from. It was another opportunity to get closer to her.
"I got a question," he said, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Whatsup Taste?"
"Why you ain't tell me your real name was Telay?"
"I thought you knew!"
"Well I didn't!" he shot back quickly in a serious tone.
Telay started to feel as if he was mad and quickly sided against upsetting him more. "I'm sorry Taste. Don't take it personal. Nobody knows my name. I've been going by Caramelay for years."
"Is there anything else about you that I don't know?"
"There's a lot about me that you don't know." She admitted softly, thinking about the shameful life she used to live with Flip. She bowed her head in shame, hoping that he would leave the conversation alone. She wanted him so bad but she was still afraid to give into that desire and she was starting to believe the reason she was scared was because she felt like she did not deserve him. She believed he would treat her differently if he discovered who she used to be. He wouldn't understand that that life was forced on her and did not define who she was. "You know the things that matter though." She added.
"I want to know everything about you."
"I don't know everything about you, Taste."
"You aint my girl—"
"And you aint my man!" She regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth but she couldn't take them back. Taste gave her an expression that she couldn't read and it scared her. Just like he had done to Pepsi, he made Telay feel like she had done something wrong and she was ready to beg him for forgiveness, but he had already left. I can't believe I just said that stupid shit, she thought, praying he would come back.
By the time he came back, the sun was resetting and Telay was pissed. "Where were you?" She damn near jumped up and punched him but she held her composure.
"We need to talk." He said, completely blowing off her question.
She sat up in bed to listen to him. "I'm sorry Taste—"
"It's cool, I ain't tripping over that. You were right, I ain't your man. I want to show you something though." He said, scooping her up into his arms.
She wrapped her arms around his shoulders as he carried her downstairs by the basement door where Pepsi and Fabien where waiting for them.
"Hey Pep!" She basically shouted, feeling like she hadn't seen Pepsi in days. "What's going on?"
No one answered her though. Pepsi simply shrugged as if to say that she did not know. They entered the basement. For Telay and Pepsi it had been their first time ever being there. Taste had specifically forbidden them from that part of the house and they were about to find out why.
