"Papa, I got a problem." Taste said to his grandfather Reego.
Reego, better known as Papa, was the head of the Venterra Cartel from Cuba. Virtually, there was nothing he could not do. "I'll send somebody." Papa replied calmly. There wasn't too much that Taste couldn't do on his own. Papa knew that if he was calling for his help, it was something federal. Due to Papa's money and his reputation he had hundreds of eyes, ears, and hands in every legal system. And with those hands, he could pull any strings. It was no secret that the feds had been watching Taste. He had been under investigation for years. Because of who his family was it was hard for them to catch him. Every time the feds came up with something against Taste, Papa would pay someone to get rid of it. Because of that, Taste had no worries of Telay not getting out. He knew how powerful Papa was. It was Pepsi who was worried.
"Be cool Pepsi, my peoples on the way. Trust me she will be out asap." Taste said assuredly.
Pepsi was almost offended that Taste seemed to think that Telay being arrested was a minor problem. He was more concerned about whether or not the undercover agent that he had shot was dead or not. "Taste, that was the fucking FEDS! That wasn't the fucking police!" Pepsi told him, hoping he would see the problem the same way she did. "Shit like this don't just go away Taste."
"Why the fuck not? She didn't even do anything. The only reason they are holding her is for questioning, and she knows what to say."
"She doesn't belong in jail." Pepsi replied in Telay's defense. She was starting to feel as if he was using them.
"Trust me Pepsi. I love Caramelay. I'm not going to let this be her fall." Taste assured Pepsi. He wrapped his arms around her to make her feel more secure about his ability to protect her and Telay. "Why don't you take some time to get your head straight," he suggested. He pulled out a wad of money and handed it to her. "I'll have a car pick you up and take you wherever you want to go. Maybe a massage will relax you. Just find something to take your mind off of this. About time you're done, Caramelay will be home."
Pepsi stared him into his dark eyes and smiled lightly. Telay was the only thing close to family that Pepsi had, but Taste was the next closest and Pepsi trusted him with her life as well as Telay's. Without putting up any further argument, she walked towards the front door where she knew a car would be outside waiting.
After Pepsi left, Taste called a meeting at one of his warehouses with all the men in his organization. He had plenty of men under him and even some above him, but they all respected each other equally. Honestly, after all the money they had made together they no longer considered themselves anything less than family.
"As most of you know, I had a meeting setup today with an outsider." He stated dryly. All the men nodded knowingly. "Where's Gino?" Taste stopped talking once he noticed one of the members was missing, and at this particular meeting that member was the most important person. Everyone looked at each other confusingly. "Find him." Taste ordered.
At the sound of his demand, two men including Taste's head-shooter, Fabien exited the room.
"It's mighty funny he's not here. He's the one who vouched for that nigga. I should've known it was some bullshit, 'cause he only wanted 10 keys. Pablo, get me Teflon. I want Alex in front of me by midnight, and I want Gino here with him. Teflon is the one that I want to bring them to me."
A tall Hispanic man entered the room unannounced, and because no one knew who he was, the whole room grew quiet. His long silky hair was positioned in a slick ponytail that hung down his back and he was dressed in an all-black tuxedo. Taste, and his men, placed their hands on their pistols as the man stepped fully into the room.
"You looking real out of place my nigga, you better say something real quick before—"
"My name is Rico, Papa sent me." The man replied arrogantly before Taste could finish his threat. Taste looked approvingly at the rest of the room, indicating that they leave. "The feds got my peoples today. I need her out and I need some eyes and ears that's hearing and seeing the same things the feds are."
Rico nodded helpfully while Taste explained what was going on. "I'll get with Papa and get back with you." Rico promised. He walked up to Taste and shook his hand. "Anything else?" Rico asked on his way to the door. Taste shook his head as Rico exited the room and Pablo reentered.
"Aye, Tef on the way and you got a phone call." Pablo said, handing Taste the cell phone.
"Hello?" Taste answered confused about who was calling him.
"This shit is crazy." Telay said through the phone. She held her head high and tried her hardest to hide her fear of going to prison. "They're telling me I can spend the rest of my life in here."
"Listen baby, they bullshitting. You ain't did nothing. They can't charge you with shit. Just calm down, take a nap or something. You'll be out of there soon.'
"Well why are they making it like I'll be here forever?"
"They just trying to make you sweat. That's it baby. They think you know something and once they figure out that you was just at the wrong place at the wrong time, they will let you go. You don't got nothing to worry about, I'm going to get you out of there."
"You promise?"
"Have I ever lied to you?"
"I'm just worried."
"You don't need to be. I promise, just trust me. I love you, okay."
"I love you too." Telay said honestly before hanging up the phone. A guard that was standing next to her grabbed her arm so she did not lose her balance while limping back to the interrogation room. She felt more confident in her decision to stay quiet. She hadn't said it but she and Taste both knew that she was in love with him, and would be willing to spend as many years in prison as she had to before she played a part in him doing a day behind bars. Even though she was surrounded by problems, she felt secure. Without a doubt she believed Taste would always protect her no matter what. If she had been in the situation she was in now with Flip instead of Taste, her fate would have already been sealed. Flip would have left her to rot, but Taste? Taste was different. He had rescued her and did for her what she could not do for herself. In a way she felt as if she owed him her life. For that reason alone, she would always stay loyal to him.
