Chapter Ten: I Get Off

KARA

'We've had a listen to all six songs you've put in front of us, and can we just say that it's good news you're being signed to Hopeless Records.'

Everyone around the table cheers, everyone but Max and I. It wasn't time to celebrate until we knew which genre they preferred, so we knew if Max was staying or going.

'Can we please ask which genre you preferred?' Max speaks up, arms folded across her chest.

The label executive looks at Max who looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here.

'We liked the last three songs; they are very different from what we already have on the label, which will allow us to evolve as a label. So we'd prefer it if you guys came onto the label as a symphonic/power metal band.'

Max snorts before standing up, 'well the guys knew my opinion on those songs, and knew if the label went with them over the rock songs that I'd quit on the spot. So good luck guys but I'm leaving the band and taking the name since I own the rights to it.'

It was kind of rude for Max to just quit on the spot in front of the record label, it made her look very unprofessional, and now we were down a guitar player after just being signed as a six-piece band. Of course, Max would be a drama queen on us, I didn't want to say it out loud, but I was kind of happy she was now out of the band.

'Well, that was unexpected. We're still going to sign you guys, but what about the sixth member and band name?'

Ben clears his throat drawing the attention of the executive, 'I know a guy called Kol who played rhythm guitar with me in a band a bit ago, he will fit in with our genre and overall a better fit than Max.'

The executive nods and writes something down in front of him.

'I may have done some research into band names within our chosen genre, and I think I have a new name for us. I like the idea of being called Beyond The Sin.' Dylan chirps in looking pleased with herself.

We were doing everything we could to please the label.

'Beyond The Sin is a different name and stands out. Welcome to Hopeless Records. Hopefully, there will be less drama in the future.'

'Thank you so much; you won't regret signing us.'

We each shake the hands of the label executives and sign on the dotted line making us officially a signed band. Once we're left alone in the room Dylan squeals loudly and throws her arms around her brother Harry.

'We just got signed brother, oh my god guys we're a real band.'

Ben and Johnny join in the hug, and then Dylan beckons me over to join the fivesome.

'This Kol guy better kick Max's guitar playing skills in the ass, so that we can't give her the chance to say 'I told you so' later down the line.'

Ben chuckles, 'I'll get him to meet us for coffee tomorrow or something. I know he's going to be the perfect fit for us. Now we need to celebrate.'

Pulling away from the group, I take out my phone wanting to tell Alex the good news. He answers on the second ring.

'Hello beautiful, how'd the meeting go?'

'Well, the label chose the more metal songs, so Max quit on the spot and walked out taking the old band name with her which we all thought was very unprofessional. Then Dylan came up with a new band name Beyond The Sin and Ben knows a rhythm guitar player called Kol who we're meeting tomorrow. Oh, did I forget to mention that we're now signed to Hopeless.'
