Chapter Eleven: Fire With Fire
KARA
Today was the day Beyond The Sin hopefully found a new rhythm guitar player to make our incomplete five a complete six. We couldn't move forward as a band until we replaced Max, who we hadn't heard anything from since she quit. Right now, the focus was on us. Ben better be right about this Kol guy being an amazing guitar player, we needed to show Max that leaving the band was the wrong move.
It seemed that the basement under Dylan and Harry's dad shop had become out permanent rehearsal space, it was falling apart, but everything still worked. The label offered us a professional space, but we came to a deal that we'd only use the professional set up when it came to recording. We vibed better off each other without a record label breathing down our necks.
Ben was having coffee with Kol beforehand to get him up to date with who we all were and to see if he was interested in changing genre. He probably didn't need to audition, but it made us feel like a proper band knowing we had the power to hire someone.
Dylan and Harry's dad was nowhere in sight as I entered the shop, holding my coffee. So I walked towards the familiar door and entered the basement. The stairs creaked louder under my boots, we had a running bet going to see who would be the first person to break the stairs and I didn't want to lose money so needed to walk more carefully.
'Taking your time won't help Kara if anything it puts more pressure on the stairs,' Johnny shouts up the stairs while standing at the bottom, staring up at me wearing a grin.
I shake my head, 'maybe that's what I want, so the next person who comes down after me breaks the stairs. Who's already down here?'
'We're all here including Ben and Kol, so if anything whoever's the first of us to leave could break the stairs.'
I curse and jump down the last two steps landing a couple of feet from Johnny. I would make sure I was the last person to leave then.
'You always know how to make an entrance, Kara,' Ben laughs loudly.
I turn my head in the direction of Ben's voice and smile before giving a little bow. The guy stood next to him laughs, and damn, he was easy on the eyes. This had to be Kol.
'Kara meet Kol, Kol meet Kara.'
'It's nice to meet you, Kara.'
Kol puts out his hand, and I shake it. If I didn't have strong feelings for Alex, I would have melted right on the spot.
'Are you ready to audition?'
He nods and pats the guitar bag next to him. Everyone gets into place, and we agree we wanted to hear Kol play with Harry and Ben trying to see how they interrupted the new song I'd written called 'Fire With Fire'. After a bit, Johnny comes in on the keyboard and Dylan starts hitting the drums, leaving me to sing how I wanted the song to sound. It was a very fast song, then again, I didn't want us to start easy.
