Chapter Twenty-One: Poppin' Champagne
KARA
It probably wasn't the smartest move on our part to sleep with each other, I was still mad at him, and Alex was coming to terms with being drugged and no longer being a father. But when Alex helped me out of the bunk after we'd gotten dressed and held me in his arms kissing the top of my head, it felt good, it felt natural, like it was meant to be.
'Come on, Kara, they have to find out eventually,' Alex jokes, tugging me towards the main bus lounge.
I bite my lip and let myself be dragged into the front of the bus where to no one's surprise both Alex's band and my band were sat watching the bunk door with big smiles and knowing looks.
Jack claps his hands together, 'you better have worn a condom Alex, we don't need a mini you running around anytime soon.'
Alex stiffens next to me, 'what about Max and the baby?'
Dylan clears her throat, 'your sound tech gave us his DNA, and we just need some of yours so we can clear all of this up and everyone can hopefully go back to their lives Alex.'
'You should have seen Dylan when she stormed up to Max and put her in her place,' Rian smirks, 'Taste Of Poison have decided to leave Warped.'
I can't keep the smile off my face at how far my band and Alex's were willing to go to make things right. I mouth 'thank you' at Dylan, who returns with an 'anytime'. I lean against Alex, and he wraps his arms around my waist more tightly, 'maybe it will all work itself out in the end, Kara.'
1 WEEK LATER
Beyond The Sin had just finished another fantastic set with phenomenal fans that seemed to be growing in number with each passing day. Fans were starting to grow fond of our music style and genre, and that's all we could ask for as a band. The rest of the band had gone off to do their own things leaving me backstage talking to our crew.
Next thing I know Oli pops up next to me, making me jump out of my skin and place my hand over my heart, 'geesh Oli, give a girl a heart attack much.'
He smirks, 'great set. Congratulations to you and Alex, I can't believe Max would have sunk that low. Do you have the DNA results yet?'
I laugh, 'someone's eager.'
Oli scoffs, 'of course I am, most of the bands have bets on the results, and my money is on Alex not being the father.'
I reach out and slap his arm playfully, 'bad Oli.'
It was great that Oli and I had managed to stay really close friends after the breakup. Beyond The Sin wouldn't have gotten much attention if it wasn't for Bring Me The Horizon taking us on tour with them.
'You should check out our set later,' he jokes.
I run my fingers through my hair, 'you know I'll be there.'
Oli and I hug before he runs off, damn that boy had some energy in him.
I turn around to resume my conversation with our sound tech when a familiar set of arms wrap themselves around my waist and pick me up off the ground before spinning me around like a maniac.
'Hello Alex,' I get out, in between giggles.
He puts me down and spins me around to face him, 'the baby's not mine.'
My whole face lights up as I throw my arms around him and kiss him rather passionately, not caring that the backstage crews could see us. I pull back and clear my throat, 'that's great news.'
He nods, 'and to make up for all the crap I've put you through I'm taking you on a date tonight, so be ready at seven and wear something casual, Kara.'
Before I can question him further, he bends down and pecks my lips before running off in the opposite direction to where Oli had gone. What was it with the guys in my life being so eager to get away from me? I'd never fully understand guys, and they say us girls are confusing.
~NIGHT~
No one would tell me where Alex was taking me. So when he pulled out a blindfold and insisted I wear it, I got flashbacks to the picnic date in the park where we fed the ducks and had a lovely time. Except this time it was dark, so we weren't doing another picnic.
We get into a car, and Alex keeps my hand on his lap the whole ride, refusing to give me any hints whenever I begged or whined. I hated surprises, but inside I was giddy and excited.
The car ride went on for around twenty minutes before we stopped. Alex paid the driver and came around to my side of the car to help me out since I was still blindfolded. I was hit immediately by an assault on the senses, I could taste something sweet in the air, and there were laughter and happy screams all around us.
'Here let me take it off,' Alex says, and removes the blindfold, standing behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.
Once the blindfold is removed, I gasp at what I saw in front of me. Alex had taken me to a travelling fair I'd seen advertised yesterday. I loved these places, I would always beg my parents to take me, but they refused saying it was tacky, but then friend's families would take me behind my parents back.
'Oh my god, I love you so much right now Alex,' I squeal, grab his hand and drag him towards the entrance.
He laughed at my childish nature and let himself be dragged along. He paid for our entrance, and we agreed to go on all the rides to get the most of our money. Alex even won me one of those giant bears at some gun game he was surprisingly good at.
'Shall we go on the ferris wheel?' he asks.
I nod and entwine my fingers through his, 'that will be the perfect ending to the night.'
We get in line and manage to get on the ride pretty quickly. I put the bear between us, but Alex manages to keep a hold of my hand as the ride starts and our cart swings as it gets higher. You could see the whole fair from up here, and as we got higher, you got the perfect view over Los Angeles.
'Wow,' is all I manage to get out.
Alex chuckles next to me, 'it looks a lot nicer up here than from down there.'
I turn my attention to him, sensing there was something else was on his mind other than the view. He was shuffling around which had made the cart swing a little more than normal, and I knew he wasn't afraid of heights, so something else was bugging him.
'Alex, you can tell me anything you know.'
He smiles and squeezes my hand, 'I know Kara, I just don't want to jinx things again.'
'What would you jinx?' I ask.
He sighs, 'I want you to move back in with me, and start afresh. But last time we lived together, everything went to shit.'
I nod in understanding at where he was coming from, but I had a solution to his issue, 'we could always find a place of our own. That way we're not starting in a place with negative memories attached.'
He removes his hand from mine and brings both of them up to cup my face going over the head of the bear, 'damn you're perfect, Kara. I'd like that, we could start our relationship anew.'
I blush, 'I love you, Alex. You've turned my whole world upside down. I'd still be in London if it weren't for you and Jack-'
He cuts me off by pressing his lips softly against mine. I kiss him back, parting my lips to give him better access. I wouldn't go back and change anything because everything had led up to this perfect moment. Some things I wouldn't be telling the kids in the future.
