Chapter Nineteen: Heart Of The Hurricane

KARA

I was getting ready for my coffee date with Alex, and I had been over the moon all of last night much to the annoyance of my band. They were thrilled I was happy, but at the same time, they were sick of me talking about how it looked like things were finally turning around for Alex and me.

'Hey Kara, are you still going out for coffee?' Kol asks, leaning against the door to the bunks where I was currently sat cross-legged doing my makeup.

I finish drawing on my eyeliner and turn to face my friend, 'of course I am Kol, didn't you hear how excited I was last night?'

He chuckles, 'yeah I think the surrounding buses also heard how excited you were. But haven't you heard the news this morning?'

'What news?' I question, genuinely confused.

Kol sighs loudly and sits down next to me on the floor, his smile turning to a sad frown, 'Max is pregnant Kara, and she told Alex he's the dad in the early hours of this morning.'

The eyeliner pen falls out of my hand and lands on the floor, what Kol was telling me couldn't be true, because Alex had been messaging me all morning asking if we were still on for today, "he didn't tell me when he messaged me earlier. Why wouldn't he tell me, Kol? This is massive."

'I don't know Kara, but I'm sorry,' he speaks calmly and opens his arms which I crawl into wanting to be comforted.

'How do I bring it up Kol?'

He squeezes me, 'I say be blunt, you need to know where the two of you stand. Alex can't ignore this. We don't want to see you hurt again, especially after how happy you were last night.'

I snort, 'I don't deserve you guys, you're too good to me and put up with all my drama.'

Kol laughs softly, 'we're more than a band Kara, we're a family even if we're all a little quirky. Now, do you think you're ready?'

I nod, 'I'm ready Kol.'

He releases me, and the two of us help each other back to our feet. I grab my phone out of my bunk to see a message from Alex saying he was outside the bus waiting for me. I feel my blood boiling, but take a deep breath and toss the phone in my bag, not trusting myself to reply to him without saying something stupid.

'No one believes the baby is his Kara, we all know Max sleeps around, and this is too convenient.'

Kol gives me a thumbs up making me roll my eyes as I pass him by; this was going to be an interesting coffee date.

Alex was waiting outside of the bus with his back to me, god how could he act so normal when he'd knocked Max up of all people.

'Hi, Alex.'

Alex jumps slightly before turning around plastering on a smile, that reeked of lies, 'you scared me there, Kara.'

I chuckle menacingly, 'what's wrong, Alex, have something to hide?'

His eyes widen, which was all I needed to know what Kol had just told me was very much true, 'err...what do I have to hide Kara? I don't have anything to hide.'

I tilt my head, 'then let's grab some coffee, I've had an interesting morning and need some caffeine.'

Alex runs his fingers through his hair nervously, 'yeah let's get some coffee in the two of us.'

I do the unthinkable and take his hand in mine, making him tense slightly before relaxing and squeezing my hand back.
