You Are Not Alone
(Utopia: Part 4)
"I am the last of my kind, as you are the last of yours, Doctor... But know this, Time Lord. You are not alone." -the Face of Boe
A/N: And all hell breaks loose in 3... 2... 1...
Mallory's eyes widened as her heart leapt in her chest. Yana was holding out the watch upside down—she could only see the back. She swallowed hard, trying not to let her shock show on her face. The Doctor's words rang in her mind.
"This watch is me."
"I'm going to become human."
"Chameleon Arch. Rewrites my biology. Literally changes every single cell in my body. I've set it to human."
Yana was still speaking, still holding out the watch. "Time and time and time again. Always running out of time."
"Can I have a look at that?" Mallory said, barely keeping her voice from trembling.
"Oh, it's only an old relic," Yana said with a chuckle. "Like me."
"Where did you get it?"
He looked at her blankly for a moment, before furrowing his brow. "I was found with it."
"What do you mean?"
"An orphan in the storm. I was a naked child... found on the coast of the Silver Devastation. Abandoned with only this."
The words came out of her mouth in a harsh whisper. "Ever opened it?"
"Why would I? It's broken," Yana said.
"If you've never opened it how do you know it's broken?"
"It's stuck. It's old. It's not meant to be," Yana said sharply. "I don't know."
He held it out and she couldn't stop herself from taking it gently and turning it over.
"Does it matter?" Yana asked sharply.
"No, not really, I guess. Um, I'm gonna go see if the Doctor needs help." She had to go. She had to go now. Because on the front of the watch were familiar, complex circles.
Gallifreyan.
Yana was another Time Lord.

Below, Jack snapped the last coupling into place. "Yes!"
"Now get out of there! Come on!" the Doctor said, dashing away and moving to the comms. "Lieutenant, is everyone on board?"
"Ready and waiting!" Atillo answered.
"Stand by! Two minutes to ignition."
A moment later, the lieutenant's voice came over. "Ready to launch. Outer doors sealed. Countdown commences, T minus 99... 98..."
The two men were scrambling over the controls as Mallory dashed in, out of breath. "Ah! Mallory! The footprint is a gravity pulse. It stamps down, the rocket shoots up. Bit primitive. It's gonna take both of us to keep it stable."
"Doctor, the professor," she said, ignoring him. "He's got a watch. A fob watch, like yours, it's exactly the same, got the same writing on it and everything."
He looked at her sharply. "Don't be ridiculous."
"I asked him. He said he's had it his whole life."
