One week later...

|Steven's POV|

I yawned and woke up, scratching the back of my neck and rubbing some hay out of my hair. I looked into my bag and saw no food there and I frowned. I went to the temple to get more food for Connie and I.

Time skip, just cuz, you know me, I'm lazy...

When I got back, everyone was up and training, as we had nothing better to do. It's been a week... Why hasn't Homeworld come for us yet... Maybe we should make the first move... I thought. I went into the barn and put the food away, only to be drawn out again by yelps from outside.

I quickly ran outside to see what was happening, Connie close behind me. Bismuth, Jade, Jasper, Lapis, Peridot, and Zirconia were all staring at something coming down from the sky. It looked pretty small, but it was far away.

"Steven! What is that?!" Lapis exclaimed, turning her attention to me.

I squinted at the object. "I have no idea, but it looks like Homeworld tech..."

We all tensed up and prepared for the thing to land...

When it got down to us, we all stared at it. It was too small, much too small to carry a gem. It landed and some dust went up. We all stood around looking at it for a while. I approached it cautiously.

As I poked it with my foot, a little container rolled out. It was round and it had a button on top.

Peridot snorted, walked up to it and picked it up. "I've seen one of these things before. It's called a long-distance communicator. You can record messages with it and the send it to anywhere in the galaxy." (It looks a little like this:)

"So how do we activate it?" Connie asked

"So how do we activate it?" Connie asked.

"Before we do anything with it... can it possibly be dangerous?" asked Jade.

Peridot looked closer at the device and shook her head. "To activate it you just press this..." she pointed at the green button on the top.

Steven took the thing out of her hands gently. "Okay everyone, gather around." they gathered around him to hear the message.

At first there was static, then a voice spoke.

"Is this thing on? Oh well, if it's not, I'll just re-do it."

I felt my eyes well up. It was Amethyst...

"Steven, I swiped this off a guard and I'm recording a message for you. I don't know how long the message can be, so I'll keep it short. We've been brought to Yellow Diamond's palace and Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire and I are imprisoned. We're all okay though, nothing serious."

There was some more static. "I'm going to explain to you what you need to do. Pearl, Garnet and I made a plan in case something like this happens. You need to evacuate the city, Homeworld could come for you at anytime. Be prepared."

There was a pause at the other end. "If need be, free Bismuth... If they don't attack you... Try to come get us when you have time... But if it gets too risky, get out of there. Get help from Lapis and Peridot, I'm sure they'll help."

I saw Peridot and Lapis glance at each other for a moment.

"I'm sure you can think of something, Stee-man." the voice cracked. "We all miss you. I get to see Pearl sometimes and she sends her love, as do I." the voice cracked again, and a quiet sob could be heard from the other end. "We all love you Steven. Be safe and good luck." there was a sniff on the other end before the message stopped.

I wiped my eyes. I turned to Peridot. "Is there anyway we can send a message back?"

Peridot nodded, and I ignored all the other gems for the time being. Peridot fiddled with the communication device for a moment before she put it back together. "To record, just press the green button." she said softly.

I looked around at everyone, who was looking at me with sympathy. "Okay. Everyone say something when I point to you, introduce yourself and tell what happened to get you to this point, briefly."

I took a deep breath and pressed the button. "Hey, it's Steven. Thanks for the message. I've already evacuated Beach City, though Connie stayed behind with me. I'm going to let the newest Crystal Gems introduce themselves, some you have met already."

I pointed to Jasper and she started to sweat nervously. "H-hey, sister. It's Jasper, Steven healed me and I joined the Crystal Gems, we'll get you out soon."

I pointed to Bismuth. "It's Bismuth. Steven already freed me, and I'm working with him. I'm sorry for what I did, and I'll be a better gem from now on..."

I nodded at her and pointed to Lapis. "It's Lapis, and Peridot and I are helping Steven."

Peridot was next. "Hey, Amethyst, I miss you, and I hope your okay. We'll get you out soon, I promise!"

Then Jade. "Hi, I'm Jade, you knew me as Centipeedle. I don't know you, but if you mean something to Steven, then we'll get you out of prison."

Then Zirconia. "I'm Zirconia, Steven found me and fixed my gem, which was cracked. I'm an original Crystal Gem, and I'm helping Steven now. Say hi to Pearl for me please."

I motioned to Connie. "Hey, Amethyst. Steven misses you. We'll try to get you out if we can find a way to get to you. Don't take any risks like this again, it'll get you shattered. We love you guys."

I spoke again. "I'll try to come for you guys within the next month. I hope to see you soon." Peridot pressed the green button to stop it.

We all looked at each other. "Are we really going to get them?" asked Connie softly.

I took a deep breath. "Yes, I'm sure there is a way to get there."

I spun and looked at Peridot. "How fast can you build something for us to get to Homeworld, if all of us are helping?"

Peridot paled considerably. "A little over a month, if we are really quick."

Steven handed her the device. "Can you send this back to Amethyst?"

"Of course." She flipped it over. A moment later, it shot into the sky and Peridot stood, rubbing her hands together. "Let's get to work on that ship."

We all nodded, our faces set in determination, and walked towards the barn to find parts for the ship.
