"Welcome to Winston Academy Mia Turner," The balding old man in a black suit said shaking my hand. "Thank you Mr Jefferson," I replied trying my best to smile politely but I was so nervous I was sure Mr Jefferson, the principal, could have heard my heartbeat. "Nervous?" He asked gesturing for me to take a seat. I sat in the leather chair opposite him.
"Not at all," I lied smiling more. "Good. What are your plans Miss Turner?" He questioned. What was this? 'Tell me all your hopes and dreams time?'
"Well I'd really like to become a lecturer at a medical university," I responded whilst I wrung my hands behind his desk. "That's good. Do you have any universities that you'd like to go to from here?" "Well I'd like to go to either Yale, Oxford or Cambridge," I said smiling more genuinely. "It's good to see you have plans Mia. Here at Winston at least two students get to each of those universities each year so work hard and be sure to get involved in lots of activities." "Thank you Mr Jefferson."
He handed me my class schedule and a list of after school activities. "You may leave," Mr Jefferson said as he began filling forms outs. I picked up my bag and headed to English.
My hand shook as I knocked on the classroom door. "Come In!" I opened the door and everyone stared at me. "You must be Mia," A short plump lady said. I nodded trying to avoid the thirty pairs of eyes burning into me. "I'm Mrs Kenwood. Class this is Mia Turner. Would you like to say anything Mia?" Everyone continued staring as if they were judging already which they probably were. I was wear a simple pair of skinny jeans which I had folded to knee height and a black v-neck shirt with a pair of rose gold sandals.
"Ummm... Hi guys, I'm Mia my family and I just moved to California and I hope we can be friends," I said smiling. Everyone continued to stare so I began to make my way to a desk at the back being careful not to trip on anyone's bag and embarrass myself.
"Ok class take out your Lord Of The Rings novels and turn to page fifty two where we stopped last time. Mia you'll have to read from the beginning to page Seventy by yourself as we'll be writing a summary on what we've read so far," Mrs Kenwood said looking at me. I nodded and turned to page fifty two. I was extremely confused not knowing a thing about Lord Of The Rings.
The bell seemed to take a year to ring but when it did I was glad to be out of English class. I rushed to my locker to get my biology textbook before sprinting to the biology lab.
Once again I had to introduce myself to everyone and given homework to catch up with the class. Lunch was good and tasted way better than the food at my old school in Manhattan. I would have rather eaten a gross lunch with friends instead of eating a delicious meal with no one to talk to while everyone else gossipped and whispered about me.
I returned home with five sets if homework and extreme fatigue. "Hi hun. How was your first day?" My mom asked typing rapidly on her laptop. "It was Ok I guess. I've got tons of homework." "Well get cracking," she said still looking at her laptop screen.
I sighed and headed upstairs to my new bedroom. My suitcase was still filled with clothes in a corner and the only things that furnished my room were my bed and wardrobe along with the two bedside tables either side of my bed.
I went over algebra and Pythagoras's theorem till my brain hurt then I began studying the life cycle of mammals and I read twenty five pages of ' The Lord Of The Rings '.
My dad came home in the middle of dinner while my sisters, brother and I were trying to tell mom about our day at once. Dad brought order and one by one we told our parents about our day. Neither seemed to be interested but you could see they were trying. I guess that's the outcome of having four children and no time to spend with them. My father owned an accounting business while my mother owned a string of clothing stores in New York and Philadelphia.

"Who are you?! Oh wait you're the new girl... Tia right?" A girl with long blonde hair said. She wore a pink skirt about three inches above her knee and a white tank top. She also wore bright pink heels and a Louie Vitton handbag. "Actually its Mia and yeah I'm the new girl," I said smiling as I hoped we could be friends. "Well if you're gonna be two lockers away from me stay out my way and try not to make a lot of noise," she said turning to apply lipstick.

Maybe not....
