Joseph and I walked up the stairs to the school's entrance doors. Stuck on it was a poster which read, 'It's that time again! The student's council will be hosting the Winston Winter dance! Bring your date (or just yourself) and enjoy yourself as you dance your lives away!'  "I need to find a date now.." Joseph said tapping his chin. I coughed. "Excuse me. Right here," I said. "Oh you wanna be my date little Mia?" He said. "Actually no i'll just go alone cause I have no boyfriend," I replied. He smiled. "So what are we wearing?" He asked. "We could be ice royalty," I suggested. "Does that mean more shopping?" He asked hesitantly. I nodded. "You know what? Let's skip the dance," he said holding my hand as we walked through the door. "No way I'll just shop alone." "Great idea!" He exclaimed kissing my cheek as we arrived at my locker. I turned to face my locker when I heard the most annoying voice. "Joseph! My hunky sugar cube! Waiting for me? How sweet but you're two lockers away from the correct destination," Stephanie said sweetly then giggled. I rolled my eye and continued collecting books and placing books in my locker. "Hi Stephanie and no I'm here for Mia actually. By the way, nice necklace." I smiled to myself. "Huh. Yeah my good guy friend gave it to me because he cares about me. And why are you here for that?" She said. "She's a person and I'd appreciate if you showed her a little respect you little-" "Joseph! Let's go," I said tugging on his arm. He gave her the middle finger and walked off. I shrugged and flashed the necklace and earrings for her to see. "He's not into you," she said. "Oh you're very mistaken sweetheart, very mistaken," I said following Joseph.
"You okay?" I asked him when we arrived at his locker. "She just irritates me sometimes," he grumbles. "Don't let that ruin your morning and without a second thought I grab a fistful of his shirt and crash my lips against his. " Sorry dude," a guy mutters. Joseph pulls away, "watch it," he says. "Wait Joseph?" Tyler turns around and looks at us both. Joseph and I freeze. "Did you two just kiss?" He asks putting his phone in his pocket clearly intrigued. "No!" Joseph denies and I feel a wave of embarrassment wash over me. "Are you guys together?" He asks with a smile playing on the corner of his lips. "No!" Joseph repeats. "Dude you're a terrible liar," Tyler snickers. "Fine. Yes we're together but you can't breathe a word about it to anyone. Got it?" I say firmly. "Cross my heart hope to die," Tyler says. "Soo... How long have you been together?" He continues leaning against a locker. Joseph clears his throat. "A month and a few days," he says. "Nice. So you two are to the dance together?" Joseph and I gave him 'duh' looks and chuckled. "Awesome. So I guess we'll both have dates cause I'm going with Ari," he says and his phone buzzes. "Who?" Joseph asks. "Girl from Quinton," he says rapidly texting. I spot Karen and Jessica walking down the hallway. Karen in black stilettos, a black spaghetti strap dress reaching just above her knee, a Louis Vitton handbag and large dark shades. Jessica is also dressed up, wearing black knee high boots, a black skirt, white crop top and a Gucci purse. "Let's go. Now!" I say tugging on Joseph. We turn and Tyler chases after us. "Wait why?" He asks. "I don't know," Joseph says. "Karen and Jessica are coming," I say. "But babe their your friends," Joseph said. "And they're being dramatic. All this prep dressing," I said. "What? And you're afraid you'll look odd because you're wearing shorts, flats and a T-shirt?" Joseph asks. "Mia!" Jessica calls and I keep walking putting in my earphones in my ears. Joseph and Tyler laugh quietly and we round the corner to the library. We dash to the back of the library and sit on our bags. "That was harsh Mi," Tyler says. "Yeah well its not you who has to listen to them rant all day at school then every night for two hours on the phone," I say rolling my eyes. Joseph senses my frustration and puts his arm around me. Tyler starts texting again and I peek at his phone. It's Ari.
