"Where are we going?" Joseph asked as we walked down my parent's driveway toward Joseph's car. "I have an idea. Let me drive," I said. "You wanna drive my beauty?" He said stopping. "Yeah I wanna drive your 'beauty' ," I said rolling my eyes. "Fine. Only because I trust you won't trash it," Joseph said handing me the keys. The car sounded smooth and the wheel glided as I turned it. "Careful it can power out," he said. I pressed my foot down harder on the gas pedal sending up speeding down the road. "Are you freaking crazy?!" He yelled as we stopped at a stop light. "Just testing," I replied sweetly. He huffed and tried to relax in the passenger seat for the rest of the journey. We parked in front the Italian restaurant Joseph wanted to go to on our last date and he grinned. "Oh my goodness I could kiss you right now!" He exclaimed. "Then why not?" I questioned. "Not now," he said getting out the car. We went inside and the sweet aroma of freshly baked pizza and pasta filled my nostrils. We were escorted by a waiter to a booth in the corner next to a window and he handed us menus and filled two glasses with water for us. "What can I get you both today?" He said with a thick Italian accent. "I say we get a whole pizza and pig out on it," Joseph suggested. I nodded in agreement. "One medium sized whole pizza please," he said. "And the toppings?" "Tomato, sweet corn, pineapple, green sweet peppers, chicken, extra cheese -" he began.
When the pizza arrived I took two big slices. It really was cheesy and it tasted amazing. I pulled the green peppers off mine and Joseph looked at my puzzled. "You don't like sweet pepper?" He asked with his cheeks full of pizza. "I loathe it. Its just so nasty," I said. "No it isn't," he argued. "The only thing worse than sweet peppers on pizza is anchovies," I said fake gagging. "Ok I agree anchovies are disgusting but sweet peppers aren't," Joseph said. I stared at him in disbelief. How could anyone like sweet pepper?
After clearing off the entire pizza we ordered dessert. I had profiteroles and ice cream with syrup while Joseph had crepes and ice cream.
"Ok. Quiz time," Joseph said holding my hand as we walked down the street. "My favourite colour?" I asked. "Magenta," he said. "And mine?" Dang it! "Red?" I guessed. "No its Aquamarine," he said. "What happens if we get it wrong?" I asked. "We go to the supermarket and buy each of our most disliked food and then we have to eat it," he said. "Middle name?" Joseph asked."Isaiah. Mine?"
"Anastasia. Favourite hobby?"
"Playing soccer and video games with Tyler. Mine?"
"Hanging out with your brother?"
"Wrong! Name your most hated food!" I exclaimed laughing. "Damn it! Well I really hate marmalade with citrus peel," Joseph sighed. "Who likes that?!" I exclaimed.
I ended up getting Joseph's favourite food, song and movie wrong while he got my birthday!, Favourite frozen yogurt place and pizza toppings wrong. We sat in his car gagging as we forced ourselves to eat the marmalade with citrus peel and a big green pepper. Since I got four wrong I had to take four big bites of the pepper raw! While Joseph had to eat three spoonfuls of the marmalade. His eyes began watering and I couldn't tell if he was crying or if the taste was just choking him. "That was horrible," I cried near tears. "Yeah. We're never doing that again," he agreed before chugging a bottle of water. I tore the bottle out his hand and began chugging but the taste of the raw pepper remained in my mouth. Yuck!
We sat in Joseph's car staring at the night sky. The sky was a dark blue decked with silver dots and the full moon shone brightly above us. "Its amazing," I breathed and he took my hand in his. After a good half hour had passed he looked at me with a smile. "What?" I asked and he handed me the box that was in his locker. I opened it and sure enough the gold necklace lay inside but this time there were earrings to match. "I care about you Mia. Like a lot," he said helping me put the necklace on. "I care about you too. I wish I had gotten you something though," I replied. "You don't have to give me anything but do me this one favour," he said. "As long as it isn't illegal," I said. He laughed. "You have your own way of saying things in a strange way. I like it," he said. I smiled. "You better or else," I said. "See?! There it is again. Will you be my girlfriend?" He said. "I don't know... We don't really know each other like that and there's always drama between us," I said playfully. "So that's a no?" He asked disappointedly. "Do you want it to be a no?" I asked. "No! I want you to say yes," he said frustrated. "You know I can't just say yes. I have to play around a bit.... Joseph of course I'll be your girlfriend. It may have taken you eons to ask but I accept your very late request," I said. "Why do you have to beat around the bush?" Joseph said grinning. "Because I'm Mia Anastasia Tur-" he pressed his lips against mine abruptly and I kissed him back. His tongue slid across my bottom lip and I opened my mouth a little. He slid his tongue in my mouth and dropped his hands down to my waist. I pulled away for air and he pecked my lips ready for more. I smiled and finished my sentence. "Turner." I said and kissed him again. On the drive to my house Joseph couldn't stop smiling. "You look so crazy with that constant grin," I said nudging him. "I can't help it. You're finally officially mine," he said. "You're acting like we're werewolves and you just marked me," I said. He shook his head at my comment. "So are you gonna tell Karen and Jessica or do you want to keep it a secret for a while?" "I think I just wanna keep it between us," I replied. "Good idea," he said. "Next week we do our first couples thing," I said. "And what's that?" Joseph asked. "You take me to the mall," I said and suddenly he regretted asking me my plan. "No! Please no!" He begged. "Yes! I say yes!" I said giggling. He groaned and I kissed his cheek. "Thank you!" I said getting out the car as he pulled up in front my home. He got out and we walked up the driveway. Dad answered the door and invited Joseph in to talk about me and also a little about sports. Mom joined Joseph and dad's conversation as I lounged in the recliner listening to the discussion. Soon my whole family were in the living room asking Joseph questions. Even my sisters were asking if he worked out and how is he born with a face so gorgeous. Sometimes my family just annoys me....***********************************************
