The rest of the week felt like Paradise. No Joseph hadn't asked me to be his girlfriend but I didn't care. At lunch we'd five each other small glances across the bench and smile. Karen and Tyler caught on fast and soon they were all up in our business. "So what exactly happened between you two? Just Monday you were giving him the silent treatment and now it's smiling, glancing, winking and sometimes even blatant staring!" Karen said as we walked up my driveway. "Nothing much we just worked out our problems." "That's so vague! Give me the long detailed story!" So I did over chocolate muffins from my favourite bakery.
"Wait so let's get this straight. You and J went from silent treatment to making out on a rock in private?!" Karen said as her eyes bulged out it's sockets. "Boulder," I corrected. "And yes we did." "And you see nothing wrong with that?" Karen asked. "Am I supposed to?" I was clueless. I had only liked one guy before Joseph he was a complete and total jerk. "Well you were mad at him and suddenly your both kissy and giggly," Karen said. "Okay I was upset but it was a misunderstanding and we kissed once. Also we haven't giggled once," I explained. "Fine so does this mean you guys are gonna start dating?" I shrugged. I had wondered if he was gonna ask me out but he hadn't asked and the rest of the week had passed already. Maybe he'd text me or we'd Skype. "You two are so confusing. Come on. Wanna go get pizza?" "Hell yeah!"~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~
I sat in the living room with the rest of my family. Mom had called a family meeting which we only had if there was something really important. I sighed. I would've rather been texting my friends than listen to my mother talk about her party and how she really wanted to show off the house. "So it'll be Saturday and I want y'all to help with decoration," she said. I sighed. We all knew by 'help' she meant she would order us what to do while we put up decorations. "Mom could I just not go to the party?" I asked. "You have to come. This means a lot to me." She was guilt tripping me, I hated when she did that. "Fine whatever."

I parked in the school car park and made my way towards the school. As I walked up the steps I smelt a familiar cologne. I turned around to see Joseph a few steps behind me. I waved and he smiled back. "Wait!" He exclaimed. "Wanna go to dinner Saturday night?" He asked. Yes! Yes! Yes! I thought to myself. "Uh yeah sure!" I said. "Nice. Six o'clock?"
Then I remembered the house warming party. "Ugh damn it my mom's hosting a party on Saturday and I promised I'd help out. We stopped by his locker so he could drop off a few books. "hey babe," Stephanie said snaking her arms around his waist and batting her eyelashes. Ugh! "Hey Steph," he said. Was he really just gonna answer her?! "So watcha doin' Friday night?" She asks smiling and giggling. Cringe.
"Well I'm going to the-" "great I'll come with you!" She cuts. "You'll come with me to go shopping?" Stephanie suddenly looks really embarrassed and I laugh to myself. "Sure then we can get a drink," she says. Wow Steph. Wow.
"No thanks Steph. I can shop on my own and I'll just buy a drink from the store if I'm thirsty." I felt satisfied by Joseph's answer and smile to myself. She stormed away casting me a death stare. I explained to Joseph about the whole Saturday issue and he seems disappointed till I suggest he could come. He smiles and we head to my locker.~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~
After hanging up decorations, putting up lights in the garden and polishing silverware I took a shower and put on a white silky dress reaching to my knees. I put on a little makeup and jewelry. I went downstairs to meet all the guests. Mom's friends are all talking about fashion, clothing designs and marketing techniques while dad's friends are discussing accounts and a lot of other brain strangling math terms. My brother's girlfriend, Laila, soon turned up wearing a purple dress and heels. I began to feel lonely as my family's friends appear one by one and there is no sign of Joseph. An hour passed and Joseph still hadn't come. I made myself useful by going around with drinks on a platter. Karen, her parents along with Tyler and his parents arrived. I was relieved to see such familiar faces but they soon found a corner to make out in leaving me alone again. I sat at the bar in the kitchen swinging a glass of wine. "Hey gorgeous." Joseph said sitting next to me. "What took you so long?!" I asked. "I got lost and there was a lot of traffic. Sorry," he said hugging me.
I wasn't sure whether it was a friend hug or a more than friends hug but I hugged back. I led Joseph into the kitchen and got him a drink from the fridge. "Thanks," he said cracking open the can of soda. We fell into a comfortable conversation and soon forgot about everyone else around us. "Hey follow me," I said grabbing his hand in mine. I was a dumb move as my entire body lit up and my hand tingled in his. I took him to attic which was basically mine and Tyrell's hangout spot. It wasn't any ordinary dusty attic we had made it into a den with books, video games a small tv, a mini couch and we had even painted the walls purple, blue and turquoise with white dots for a galaxy effect. There was even a little window as dad would love to go to the attic when we were kids and use his telescope to watch the stars. It was perfect up there.
The moon shone brightly through the window and lit the room. "This is amazing Mia!" Joseph exclaimed. "I know," I smiled happy he liked it. "Snack?" I asked grabbing a bag of chips and cookies from by the fridge. "Sure!" He said. I threw him the bag and grabbed the remote. "What should we watch?" I asked as I turned on Netflix. "Grey's anatomy or switched at birth!" He exclaimed. "Or Once upon a time..?" I suggested. "Ugh no I've seen like every episode already!" He said. "I don't care. My TV," I said putting on once upon a time. He leaped from the couch and we lightly wrestled for the remote. He ended up winning but only because he crushed me beneath his body weight.
We ended up watching Grey's anatomy and I let my head rest on his shoulder as we sat on the couch together. He put his arm around me and I smiled to myself. I looked up at him and he was deeply engrossed in the show.
He sensed me looking at him and looked at me. He brushed away a loose curl and smiled. I had an urge to kiss him. His lips looked so kissable so I did. I leaned up and allowed my lips to touch his. He pulled me onto his lap and placed his arms around my waist. I held his face in my hands and slowly he teased my lips open. Was I ready though? For the whole tongue thing? We weren't even dating. I pulled away quickly and he looked at me confusedly. "What's wrong Mia?" He asked. "Nothing.. Its just were not dating so the whole french kiss thing just seems like not the right time. He nodded giving me a quick peck on my lips.
" What time is it?" He asked. I checked my phone.
"Oh my... Its nearly ten fifteen. People are gonna be looking for us!" I exclaimed scrambling off his lap and turning off the television. I opened the attic door and went down the stairs into the hallway with Joseph close behind.
"Where have you guys been?!" Karen exclaimed coming out the spare room with Tyler behind her.
"Why were you in the spare bedroom?" I fired back. "Uh.. Looking for you!" She said. Sure.~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~
When everyone's is gone my parents give me a lecture on safety and not going in rooms alone with boys. Yawn. I nod and apologize to shut them up before heading to our room.
"My baby sister lost her virginity in the attic at sixteen," Tyrell said as he stood in the doorway of his room. "Oh my god Tyrell shut up! I didn't do it!" I said before I slammed my door. Ugh sometimes family can be overbearing.***
