An hour later, I stood back and checked my appearance in the mirror. I ran my fingers through my now loosely curled hair and touched up my makeup, then took one final look over my outfit. I'd decided on the pair of holey, skinny jeans that Madison had suggested, a tight black v-neck, and white converse.

As I stepped away from the mirror my phone began to ring. I answered after the first ring, "I know, I'm on my way down," then hung up, gathered up money, my ID, and a jacket and hurried down.

"You look hot," I heard the voice of my best friend and looked up smiling and saw Madison standing up, leaning on the outside of the car and Jack in the driver's seat.

"Don't I always?" I laughed and climbed into the back of the two-door civic that they drove, followed by Madison getting back into the front passenger seat.

"Well obviously," Madison laughed and put her seatbelt on, "But more-so today."

"I honestly don't know how you load a kid in and out of this car," I muttered frustrated while fastening my seatbelt.

"It's not so bad," Jack piped up, beginning to drive again, "We've gotta go pick up my brother then we'll be on our way."

I nodded and looked out the window. Jack and Madison had been together since Madison and I's sophomore year in high school. They met at a party when Jack was a senior and fell madly in love. They got married four years later and a year after they had my adorable goddaughter Hayley, who is now two years old.

I felt the car coming to a stop and heard Jack honk to let his brother know that we were here.

I looked out the window and saw the back of a tall, dark-haired man locking the door of his house. I vaguely recognized the back of his head, but the realization didn't hit me until he turned around and I saw his face. 'Oh my god, this is not happening. Nathan is not Jack's brother,' I thought, panicked, as he began to walk toward the car.

I leaned up quickly between Madison and Jack in the front seat, "That's your brother?"

Jack nodded and looked over at me, clearly confused, "Yeah why?"

I leaned back into the backseat but couldn't tell them why, as Nathan was already standing outside of the car. Jack got out to let him in and I scooted as far away from where Nathan would be sitting as I could manage. He bent down to get in and we locked eyes. I saw the confusion pass over his face, but it was quickly replaced by a smug grin. I looked away from him and rolled my eyes, making it a point to look out the window instead of looking in his direction.

"You guys ready?" Madison turned around in her seat and smiled at us.

I nodded and Nathan held his grin, "Absolutely."

Madison turned back to the front and I could hear the sound of her acrylic nails tapping on her screen as she typed furiously on her iphone. A few seconds later I felt my phone buzz in my lap with a text from Madison, 'Do you know him??'

I snuck a glance over at Nathan to make sure he wasn't watching and texted back quickly, 'I may have met him at a bar last night and he may have woken up in my bed this morning.' We didn't keep anything from each other. I hit send and could already feel the blush creeping onto my face.

Madison gasped quietly from the front seat and sent back, 'Oh my god paige you did not. That is Jack's brother.'

I rolled my eyes, 'Yeah I realize that now. I'll tell you about it later.'

A new text came in moments later, 'okay fine but I'll need every detail.'

I smiled and shook my head, she could be so nosy sometimes.
