Mag POV

Bay wasn't human. She was a mermaid forever now. How could this have happened? We were so careful, even since the beginning. The beginning of our secret life as mermaids. I remember it clear as day.

We were thirteen at the time, the time we first changed. We still don't know exactly how it had happened, but we have our theories.

Anyways, Cole, Aria, Bay, and I had planned a sleepover after much convincing to our parents. We had snuck out during the night and gone down to the beach shore. Even before we became mermaids, we had loved the ocean.

Something about the water that night just completely mesmerized us. We just had to go in. So we did. Farther and farther until the shore was almost out of sight. But we weren't scared, surprisingly we were more calm then we had ever been before. That's when it happened.

I had felt a tug at my leg, almost like I was being pulled to the bottom of the ocean. I gasped for air when I reached the surface again. Again I felt a tug. Again I fought it. Over and over and over. Until, finally I gave in to it. That's when it happened.

My legs went still and began to change. Panic spread through my chest like a forest fire. I couldn't move at all and was sure that it was the end for me. But it wasn't, the ocean had other plans for me. Plans far greater than I could've imagined.

My legs were no longer legs but a tail. I was no longer gasping for air but breathing underwater. My visioned wasn't blurred anymore but heightened. I knew it was the ocean that had done this for me. It had returned my love for it by giving me the greatest gift of all, the ability to be one with the ocean, even if it was only when I was immersed in water. I will forever be thankful.

I look at my friends and realized they had gone through the same thing as me. We smiled and began to race each other with our newfound tails.

One thing we will never forget about that night was the necklace we had found on the shore. We found it right before the change had happened. Right before our lives were changed forever.

Aria thinks the necklace is what drew uss in. She thinks that the ocean had chosen us and we had chosen it back. She says that the necklace was the test from the ocean to see if we would accept it. And we did.

But the necklace had the power to change you into a mermaid and if it was ever to fall into the wrong hands, I don't even want to think what would happen then. So we hid it away someplace far away. Only someone who was a mermaid or was with a mermaid could have found it. The power of the necklace could save or destroy.

One more thing about the necklace was the initials that appeared. After we were changed each of the first letters of our names appeared on it spelling out, "CAMB."

But this, we never expected this to happen. We thought it was unimaginable and impossible for one of us to permanently retain our human forms. We were wrong. Bay will never be able to walk again or go on land. Half of her life is gone now. I know she loves the ocean and her tail, but I know she's suffering. She can't be with Liam, he's lives on land and she lives in the sea. A boundary that can't be crossed separates them from each other. From their love. From her life as a human.
