Miranda sat on her bed, an oversized shirt over her body, her hair still somewhat wet from her shower. She watched me as I packed my backpack.
"Do you have to go?" Miranda asked.
I nodded. "I'm sure Tony knows where I am now, and knowing Nat and Steve, they'll probably be here soon. I have to figure out this HYDRA crap before I go back." I put my necklace, bracelet, watch and ring back on, wishing I had the ring when I was down at the pool. Punching that guy with the ring on surely would've left a mark.
Miranda nodded sadly. I pulled on my boots and gave her a hug. "Thank you so much." I said. Miranda sniffed in response. I held her at arms length. "Don't cry. I'm not dying. I'll call you."
Miranda nodded and pulled me back into a hug, squeezing me tighter and I hugged her back. Shouldering my backpack, I walked to the door and looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing tan cargo pants, brown combat boots, and a red, plaid flannel over a black tank top. Again, I looked like I was supposed to be in the Impala, hunting demons and monsters with Sam and Dean. If only that was what I was doing. Instead, I'm running from everything.
I hugged Miranda again, slid my aviators on and closed the door, then left the building. I went into an alleyway, a place nobody would see me taking off from. As I made sure my backpack was secure, a familiar voice came from behind me.
"Hello, Summers."
I spun around. The man from the pool stood in front of me, his friends behind him. I guessed he was the leader of their little group. And since they knew my name, I guessed that they were HYDRA.
"What's up, Pinky?" I asked, remembering his ridiculous swim trunks from before.
"What you did, was rude, and I want an apology." Pinky said.
I heard footsteps behind me and spun around, men guarding the entrance to the alley.
Well, guess I'm in trouble.
"I'm sorry. I'm just not a pool person." I shrugged.
Pinky walked closer. I took a step back for every step he took forward. Eventually I was backed up against the man guarding the entrance.
"I said 'sorry.' Can I go now?"
"I actually want more than an apology."
Pinky looked me up and down with hungry eyes that slowed at my chest. Two of his men grabbed my arms, keeping me there. Pinky stood an inch away from me and reached out, stroking my hair and draping it over my shoulder.
"You want money? I've got money. Just tell me how much." I said, really not wanting any of it.
He placed his hand on my jaw, rubbing my cheek with his thumb. He looked at one of his men and nodded. I turned to face the man, but his fist hit me first, and everything went black.
