I watched Stephanie run ova ta Laya. At dis moment, I ain't care about da fact dat Lynn might have gotten away. Things were kind of movin in slow motion. It wasn't until then dat I realized dat Laya was holdin a gun and in front of her were laying two bodies.
Estelle and Kelton.
Looking up at Laya, I seen da tears in her eyes and da fear. Fa da first time in my life I was speechless. I walked ova ta whea she was and slowly kneeled down in front of her.
"Baybeh?" She looked down at me, still holdin da gun at da two bodies.
"Daddy, I'm sorry. Was I wrong?"
I smiled and shook my head.
"No, you wasn't. I'm just glad dat you aight. Na give me da gun."
She looked down at her hand and seen what I was talking about. She then slowly laid da gun in my hand and placed it on da ground and pulled her ta me. Stephanie placed her hand on Laya's hair and kissed her.
"Are you alright honey?" Stephanie asked.
Laya looked up and nodded. I smiled and pinched Laya's leg.
"Look at you. Daddy's lah thug."
Stephanie hit my arms but smiled all the while.
"Laya, I'm glad that you took up for yourself, I am. But always be careful. Daddies guns are very dangerous." Stephanie scolded and I rolled my eyes.
I had already taught Laya how to shoot, so thea wasn't really anything left ta say.
"Stephanie, she know what she doin." I interjected.
Placin her hands on her hips, she stared down at me and cocked her brow.
"Really, she is 10 years old August. It doesn't matter if she knows how to drive a car, she still needs to be carful and not hurt herself."
I fanned her off and gave Laya a high five. Stephanie shook her head. I stood up and picked Laya up and held her. Stephanie looked around and I walked ta da truck and placed Laya inside.
"We need ta find ya moms."
I walked around da truck and picked up da gun dat I had taken from Laya.
"I know but I don't know where she went."
I nodded. "I think, I do."
She frowned and looked at me. "How."
I smiled and shrugged,
"Just in the car."
She sighed and nodded, reaching fa da door.
"Wait, who is going to get these bodies? We can't just leave them here."
I nodded and climbed in on my side.
"Don't worry about all dat. Daddy got it."
She cocked her brow but climbed in anyway.

When we pulled up ta da place, I knew dat it was whea we was about ta find Lynn. It was at her house. She was about ta catch a plane and leave da state. Me being who I was, I knew dat she was about ta do dis. I mean I would have if I known dat I was in some trouble. We climbed out of da car and Laya was alert. She grabbed my hand and walked along side of me. Stephanie lingered behind me. I guess she called her self havin my back.
Thea was no point in knockin, da bitch wun goin ta come ta da door anyway. I turned to face Stephanie and held my hand out.
"What?" She asked clueless.
"Give me your keys. Since you have a key ta her house and her door is locked."
She sighed and reached into her back pocket and pulled her keys out, handin them ta me.
After I unlocked da door, I told da girls ta head back ta truck and turn in on just in case they had to make a run fa it. Stephanie gave me a bit of lip but she did as I said. After dat was settled, I made my way into da house.
Thea was movement comin from da back room and I walked back thea ta see what was goin on. Thea was pictures all ova da floor of my father and Lynn together. I knew I had mo important things ta do but I couldn't help it.
I picked it up and began looking at them. Lynn was pregnant. My dad had his arms wrapped around her on his knees kissin her belly. I frowned as to what was going on. I was really confused.
"He was a good man." I dropped the picture and stood up, pointin my gun at da voice.
I stoop up and seen dat it was Lynn.
"I know dat." I up and down her.
She walked ova to whea da picture was and picked it up, just lookin at it. I had questions and she knew dat shit.
"I'm sure you want to know what it is that you just saw right?"
I shrugged and looked away.
"It's a yes or no boy. You aren't a goat don't nod at me."
I smacked my lips and bit my tongue.
"Aight."
She sighed and walked over to her vanity and sat down.
"He was my lover. After I met David and he met your mother. David and I were going through a bad break up at the time and your mother and father had just had you and they were struggling. Well we were looking for a way out, just sometime alone and your father came over to David and I's place. I was not to familiar with your father until David introduced us. We were friendly but we knew our limits until one night we were just overwhelmed. We both agreed we needed a brea away from our lovers and we got it. Your daddy suggested we just go out riding and we did and things happened that shouldn't I guess. But no matter what I don't regret it."
I coughed and looked out of the window.
"So ya'll cheated. And he got you pregant?"
"It wasn't like that."
I walked closer to her.
"Oh? It wasn't? Then what was it like?"
"We were kids Anthony!" She stopped and shook her head.
She had called me my father's name. I looked at her.
"So where is da baybeh dat you had, you abort it? Lose it? I mean y'all looked pretty damned happy in dat picture fa it ta be a mistake."
"It was't a mistake."
I cocked my brow. Damn you learn something knew everyday.
"So you tellin me, he meant ta get you pregnant?"
"No but he told me that he loved me and whatever happened, happened. When the child was born, it was your father's idea to make it seem as though the child was David's. Then we met one last time before he married your mother and we called it quits. he was okay with the fact of his child calling David father but I was never over him."
I frowned at the still unanswered question dat I had asked before.
"But who was da baybeh?"
She looked up at me. "It was Jace. Jace is your brother."
