Stephanie

I sighed and pulled up to the house and parked across the street. There was nobody there. Rolling my eyes, I put the car in park. It was getting dark and since there was no light on, I was pretty sure that there was nobody there but I was going to go in any way.

I climbed out of the car and grabbed the gun and closed the door, heading around the back of the house. I looked in all of the window but there was nothing on except a flicker of a blue light. It was a television. Touching the window, I tried to open it but it was locked.

Hearing shuffling behind me, I looked for a place to hide but there was really no place. There wasn't even a damn bush. So, I took it on myself to hide behind the corner of a shed that was back there. I looked and seen a figure walking on the back porch.

I frowned trying to stretch myself to get a better look but unfortunately while trying to get to a better place to look, I fell out of my hiding place. I looked up and seen the person holding a gun down at me and I instantly cocked my gun up at the unknown person.

Next thing I knew, there was a flashlight in my face.

"What da fuck?" That voice.

I sighed. "What?"

The person flickered the light on themselves for me to get a good look and the quickly it was turned off.

August.

"Stephanie what in da fuck are you doin outchea? You was supposed ta be home with Jace. I could have killed you."

I sighed and stood up ignoring the hand that he was holding out for me.

"I know that. But I had to see what was going on. I told you that I wasn't going to let you do this on your own. You can't afford to get this type of attention."

He smacked his lips and shook his head.

"You mo concerned about my shit than you are yo own. But dat ain't da point."

"Then what is the point?" I asked, rolling my eyes and staring back at him.

He clenched his jaw.

"Da pont is dat you bringin' yo ass out hea. You could have gotten yoself killed an--"

"And what about you August? You are out here to and you are at as much risk as I am."

"Steph, baybeh. I know what da hell I'm doin'. Dis aint shit dat I just started doin' and you know dat."

I crossed my arms and shook my head.

"That's no fair. You can do this but I can't. I--

"Look bae, I luh you. You really think dat I need you out hea doin dis shit hea? I'm not gon lose you, so I need you to listen ta me."

"Aug--

The back porch light automatically came on. August pushed me again behind the shed and moved himself beside me.

"Hello!" It was a female voice.

It had to be Estelle but I wasn't sure. She sounded a bit older but I didn't know who it was.

"I'ma check it out." August whispered.

I grabbed his arm.

"No. She will see you."

He sighed. "Stephanie."

I loosened my grip on his arm and leaned back against the wall. He moved low to the ground to see who it was.

"See anything?" I asked.

"Shit, I think dat she went back in da house."

I sighed. It was my fault. If I hadn't of showed up, August probably could have taken care of this. He was right, he knew what he was doing, I didn't.

Putting my attention back on August, I watched him stand and dust himself off. He faced me and grabbed my hand.

"Come on, lets get out of hea."

I took his hand and we cautiously made it back to my car. He opened my door and watched me get in.

"I'a see you at da house." He began to walk off.

"Aug."

He turned around, sliding his shades on his face.

"I'm sorry. I have been real foul with you here lately and I'm sorry. I have been stressing and I have been taking out on you. I just want us to be honest with each other and when I felt that you were lying to me, I started assuming shit. I'm so sorry baby." I said, turing my body to where it was on the outside of the car.

He sighed and kneeled down and grabbed my hands.

"Look, I been doin' my share of shit to. Thea is some shit dat I have ta tell you but I can't right na because if involve you, I could possibly lose you. But I just want you ta know dat Laya ain't my biological child. Dis bitch hea is da reason those papers ended up in da crib."

I frowned. "She was in our house?"

"Yup and asked me how, I don't know but baybeh I will fix this. I fuckin promise.

I shook my head and grabbed his face. "No, we are are going to fix it."

He smiled and shook his head. I leaned in to kiss him but he shook his head.

"Let's get outta hea. We already been out hea way to damn long. Dis bitch ain't stupid, she already plottin', I feel it. Let's get home, I'll trail you."

He smirked and I turned my body all the way into the car. I watched in my rearview as he walked to his truck. He blinked his lights at me and I pulled off, heading in the direction of the house.

We got to the house and August hopped out of his truck and jogged up to the door, unlocking it. I walked in after him and he was already in Jace's face.

"What da fuck did I ask yo ass ta do?"

"Man, she wouldn't listen. She was determined to go and do what she was going to do. She told me she had to go out somewhere and I told her what you said but she wasn't hearing it." Jace said, squaring up to August.

Oh shit, I had to stop them.

"August." I grabbed his arm but he shook me off.

Jace stepped to him. "Aye listen to her. She trying to talk some sense into you nigga."

"Sense in ta me? Man shut da fuck up. Don't say shit ta me about some fuckin sense cause yo ass aint got none. Who da fuck in they right mind can't control they fuckin lah ass sister. She got passed you. Damn, if you can't watch her, how da hell are you protect her? Even Erin. By da way is she ok, she ain't run da fuck off either did she?"

August snarled each word. Jace rolled his eyes and snatched his phone off the counter and headed for the door. I reached for him but he shook me off and slammed the door. I looked around and August was gone.

I walked to our room and checked to see if that was where he was but it wasn't. I check the patio but he wasn't there. Lastly, I peeped into Erin's room and that was where he was. He was sitting on the edge of her bed and wit his head in his hands.

She was still asleep so she was unaware that he was in there. I peeped in and knocked on the door. He lifted his head up, looking at me.

"You ok?" I asked.

He nodded. "I had ta check on her. Had ta make sho she was aight. Steph I feel like I am failin' as a fatha. I got nigga threatin' my family. Bitches talkin shit ta m daughter."

He shook his head and sniffed.

"August, it's ok. We are going to get through this."

" I know." he said cockily.

Right then, I knew something was up.

"Au--

"Baybeh, I know dat you gon be mad at me but just for dis one time only--"

He cocked his gun and I jumped.

"I'ma take one last ride as Yung.
