I Won't Ever Let You Go

Prologue

I grew even more anxious with every minute that passed. It was 2 in the morning when Courtney was taken back for a c-section and now it is 3:04.
She is having our first baby girl, Breanna Emmerson Smallbone.
Breanna means "Noble, strong, and virtuous." And Emmerson means "Brave and powerful."
My phone buzzed in my pocket, it was a text from Joel.
"Any news yet?" He had been kind enough to pick Jude and Phoenix up right after we got to the hospital so they would have a place to sleep.
"Not yet." Was my reply.
"Don't worry everything will be fine." He said knowing that I was working myself up.
A few minutes later a nurse came to the waiting area.
"Mr. Smallbone?" She said approaching me.
"Yes ma'am." I said as I stood up, my legs shook from my nervousness.
"You have a beautiful baby girl, she is 7lbs 7oz and 13.75in. You're wife is doing just fine too. You can go back now if you'd like."
"Can you show me the way?"
"Of course." She said and then I followed her to Courtney's room.
I quietly stepped in the room and walked over to Courtney's side.
Court looked up at me and gave me a sleepy smile. My eyes filled with tears when I saw my perfect baby girl.
"She's so tiny." She said.
"She's perfect." I said stroking Breannas little forehead. "Can I hold her?"
"Of course honey." She said handing me the little pink bundle.
"Hey princess, I'm your daddy." I said when she opens her sleepy eyes. Her little hand wrapped around my finger as she went back to sleep.
I looked over at Courtney and saw that she had fallen asleep too so I sat down in the chair beside the bed.
"Breanna I promise to always take care of you, love you, and be there for you. I won't ever let you go. You'll always be my beautiful princess." I whispered.
Before I knew it a nurse was waking me up to take Breanna.
I gave her forehead one last kiss before placing her gently in the bassinet.
