2 weeks later
The past couple of weeks have been rough.
Brea still hasn't gotten any better. She can't eat anything, she keeps getting sick to her stomach, and she has no energy. On top of all that she's had a fever over 103 for the past 5 days straight.
Right now we are at the doctor waiting on the results from her blood work to come in. Courtney is setting beside me and Brea exam table in the middle of the room.
The doctor comes in with a smile that isn't sincere, I know something bad showed up in the results.
Brea was looking down at her phone laughing at something.
"Babe why don't you go and set with Phoenix for a bit so we can talk to the doctor." I said walking to her and putting my arm around her.
"Um... Ok." She said and the left down the hallway.
"The blood work results weren't good at all. There isn't an easy way to say this." As he spoke I pulled Courtney close to me. My mind was racing with all the different things he could say. "I'm sorry, but your daughter has leukemia." He said. I felt like someone just threw a bowling ball at my stomach. I couldn't breathe.
Courtney let out a sob and I held her in my arms. I wanted to cry but I had to be strong for her. And the boys. But most of all Breanna. I couldn't hold it back though. The tears forced their way out and started to fall.
"It's ok we'll get through this." I whispered to Courtney over and over until her sobs turned to quiet sniffles.
"Is there any type of treatment that she can do?"
"Actually, there is. The survival rate is pretty good, but unfortunately the cancerous cells have spread all throughout her body so we would have to start as soon as we can. Tomorrow would be best. I can give you some info about it and give you some time to think about it."
"ok."
"How are we going to tell her, and the boys? They'll be devastated." Courtney asked.
"I don't know, but I better have Brea come back here, she needs to know first."
"Ok I'll text her."
A few minutes later she comes back smiling that radiant smile of hers. As soon as she sees us though her smile fades.
"What's going on in here?" She asks.
"Set with me." I say and she sets on my lap. I suck in a deep breath and sigh. "They've diagnosed you with leukemia." I say and my voice cracks from the tears.
"No, please tell me you're joking."
"I'm sorry baby." I whispered.
"I-I can't daddy, I can't do this." She says sobbing into my chest.
"God will get you through this." I say holding her as tight as I can.
"They can start you on chemo tomorrow, if that's what you want to do." I said wiping the tears off her cheeks.
"Yeah, that's fine. I just want to get better."
We talked to the doctor and got everything set up.
After that we left and went home.
When we got home Jude called and said that he would be home this evening so we decided to tell Phoenix and wait to tell Jude.
Phoenix took it pretty hard. After Brea told him he went up to his room and thirty minutes later when I went upstairs, I could hear him still crying.
The rest of they day was hard and we all dreaded tomorrow. Especially me. We decided that I would be the one to take her and I don't know how I can be strong for her that long.
Jude took it even harder than Phoenix did that evening when we explained everything. He always protected his little sister, but he couldn't now, not from this.
No matter how much we all wanted to protect her, we couldn't. The greatest thing we could do was pray and that was the most powerful thing.
