When we got home from making the funeral arrangements I remembered the envelope that Brea slipped in my hand right before she passed.
I found it and slipped a piece of paper out of it.
To whoever receives this,
I know that by now I might be gone, but don't worry I'm where I belong. I have left letters for the family in a shoe box in the bottom of my closet. I knew this day would come so I wrote letters to everyone. Please give them out for me they are very important.
With much love,
Breanna Emmerson Smallbone
I smiled slightly and went to her closet where I found the box.
I took it out the box and it was exploding with enveloped letters.
I sorted through all of them. There was one for each of my siblings, their spouses, Asher, Hayden, Gemma, and Ella. There were a few for her friends. The thickest envelopes were for Courtney, the boys, and I.
I gave them their letters and told them what they were for and then we all went to a quite place and read them.
Mine was full of memories and her telling me how much she loves and looked up to me. I cried the whole time I read it and my tears joined the stains that hers left.
I smiled at the Polaroid she had tucked in there. It was me and her napping on the couch together. I had gotten sick again for a little bit and I was having a rough day that day. She was about 4 and she crawled up next to me when I was having a rough moment.
*Flashback*
"Daddy what's wrong?" She asked seeing the tears on my face.
"I just don't feel good baby. I'm ok though."
"When I don't feel good and you snuggle me I feel better, can I snuggle you?"
"Yeah baby, that would make me feel better."
I attempted to help her up but she did it all by herself.
"You can hold my teddy." She said handing me a stuffed bear that I gave her on her first birthday.
She kissed me on the cheek and snuggled up next to me and soon we both fell asleep.
*Present*
I loved that picture of us, it was such a sweet moment.
She wrote a story in her letter from her 14th birthday party in there. I snuck up behind her and shoved a piece of cake in her face and she spread frosting all over my hair. We gave each other a hard time but it was a another way we showed our love for one another. There was another picture for that story too.
There was also a DVD in the box. I took it and put it in my laptop. It was a video that Libby took of us when Brea sang with me at a concert one time.
She was so nervous but she did so great as she sang "Priceless" and "Without You" with me.
I smiled through my tears as I watched it. I'm so thankful for those memories with her, even if she wasn't here long enough, we still had a good share of them.
