Chapter 4 - Acting Robin
Edited by lostindreamz, the awesome editor. I dedicate this chapter to you :)
Do you have those moments when you feel like, ‘Oh, I shouldn't have done that!' and you get all frustrated?
Well, that's how I felt as well. I observed my surroundings; the red brick colour of the wall became intimidating after awhile, as if it could come closer and crunch you.
The waiter whom I ordered a star from, as weird as it sounded, really did give me a star. He was now seated in front of me, in a basement below that fancy restaurant. Sounds suspicious? I know!
"That is your star," he said as he placed a big brown envelope. I took it, just as carefully as I take the other, smaller envelopes I get these days.
Taking out the paper, I saw that one symbol again. What symbol is this actually?
"That's the game's symbol, if you are wondering," he answered my unspoken question. "Anyway, tea or coffee?"
"Tea, please." He nodded and headed to a small kitchen just beside the couch we were sitting on. It was like a small apartment, just, no one knew that it existed. So if I was killed here, no one would know it. Wait, Robin, what are you thinking?
I shook my head, trying to dismiss my negative thoughts. I read the paper carefully, where instead of just three words, there were around 500 words on this one.
"I'm Apple, by the way," the waiter guy said as he placed a cup of tea in front of me, gesturing me to drink it.
"Apple?" I raised my eyebrow.
"I'm your assistant for this game, Ms. Fletcher."
"Robin is fine."
He smiled, "That's true, you will no more be Robin Fletcher until this game ends. The star you ordered will determine basically the personality you will be in this game."
I looked at him in confusion, and then continued reading the paper before he interrupted me again.
"Basically, you have to be someone else in this game. Your goal is to find the missing person who from now on will be addressed as The One. Sounds romantic doesn’t it?" he laughed at his own joke, sipping his own tea. "You will be given missions to be accomplished in order to get clues on who The One might be."
I nodded, letting him know that I understood. This person seemed to know a lot. As he said, he was now my assistant for this game. I still had doubts in my mind, though. Who knows, this all could be a prank.
I slid the paper into the envelope again. I found that he could explain whatever I needed to know without reading a single thing from the paper. He went on without stopping, describing this game, which apparently had no name, according to Apple.
"You and I can be the only people other than the makers, to know that you are participating. No one should know your real identity as Robin Fletcher or as a player of the game. Great measures would be taken on you if your identity gets out, and I mean it," he said in one go. Does he breathe?
"So, ba-"
"From now on, you will be known as Robin Apple - a family member of the great Apple family who has been hiding in a private island. You are the only child of the Apple family and wanted to know the outside world, thus decided to come out and attend Abbey Mount High School, do you understand?" he cut me off and said a train of words without stopping.
"Robin Apple?" Why is my world surrounded by Apples?
"We saw you stealing apples, we thought it fitted you," he explained. "And me."
