Chapter 15 - Relationship
- My boss hired someone new as a cashier, we take turns now. I have a free day tomorrow, are you free?
The message that came early in the morning left me in a very good mood for the whole day. My smile grew wider and wider whenever I re-checked that the one who sent that message was really Anthony. I tried my best to hide my smile, but it seemed like I was failing big time.
“Stop smiling like that, it’s kind of creepy,” Luke teased me, trying hard to hide his smile. Luke knew well why I was like this; he had peeked at my phone this morning.
“Is it Anthony?” Kate asked in a sing song voice. I answered my two friends with a smile. Today’s lunch was Kate’s homemade healthy burger, filled with veggies and a piece of egg inside. Luke ate another bite of his burger; he was very satisfied at how the wheat bread met whatever Kate had put in the burger to make such taste bud heaven.
“You know,” Luke said as he chewed, which earned him a soft punch on his arm from me, telling him to either eat or talk, not both. “I think I saw Anthony somewhere before.”
Kate swallowed her own burger then responded, “Now that you mentioned it, I also thought the same. He seemed a bit familiar.”
I just shrugged, well, maybe they had met him somewhere before or Anthony’s face was a common one, though I doubted the latter. They dropped the topic of Anthony soon after since none could recall where they had met or seen Anthony before.
“So, on Sunday you’re turning seventeen, aren’t you?” Luke asked Kate. Kate didn’t answer but excitement was written all over her face. She looked at me, sharing the secret we had made about her birthday through eye contact. We both giggled, I was excited for the city tour I prepared from some research I had made and Kate was excited for an adventurous journey.
“What is it? Some girls’ things?” Luke groaned, feeling left out. Usually, despite being the only boy, he didn’t feel this lonely.
I gave him a tap on the shoulder that came out stronger than I had intended, making him wince, “Some girls’ thing, it is.”
Luke then started word vomiting his complaints, making me and Kate laugh louder and louder.

- Okay, see you tomorrow :D
The new message that came in made him show his very rare smile. Tya and James tried to peek at what was happening. It was almost three pm, and Anthony’s lips had curved upward more than enough times for their lifetime to see.
“The new cashier is a guy, right?” James asked Tya. Tya raised her eyebrow, “Yeah. Why?”
“Anthony fell in love with him, maybe?” James asked once again, trying to look at the cashier while preparing some food a customer had ordered.
Tya punched James’ arm, realising James had thought Anthony liked the new cashier guy in a rather romantic way. But Tya knew better, she knew it was because of something on Anthony’s phone.
“So just click on whatever the customer asks, okay?” Anthony ended his explanation to the boy beside him, explaining what a cashier should do. He had done more jobs as a cashier but Anthony thought he should teach him one by one. He was happy enough to get a free day tomorrow.
The boy had light brown hair and eyes. He was pretty tall and pretty thin. “Oh, okay, that looks easy,” he said as Anthony told him to take the order of the next customer who had just arrived.
