Chapter 11 - Post-It
Over one day, Leo had developed a pretty good relationship with Apple. We had dinner together where he asked for some recipes that he could try at home. They laughed together, and Apple gladly shared some of the ingredients we had. Leo even stayed the night.
Apple had said that no one would know if he stayed anyway and since I’d missed Leo so much, he would allow Leo to spend the night with us. Leo must have been grateful. The three of us played cards, ate so many snacks that my stomach ached and in the end I was laughing so hard, I almost cried. I’d never had this kind of feeling before: A feeling of great happiness.
“See you soon, Leo,” I hugged him. He hugged me back tighter. I noticed my head was around his ears now. “Did you grow taller?”
He smirked in victory, “Of course.”
Wow, boys sure grew fast. I messed up his hair as sunlight reflected off of his blonde head. “I miss you, a lot,” he said, looking at me with those warm brown eyes, those eyes that I had looked at my whole life.
“Me too,” I replied, pulling him back into another hug.
Apple let out a cough which made us realise we weren’t alone but in fact in public. But hey, this was brotherly hug he was giving me. I pulled out of the hug and we looked at each other once again; our eyes on the same level.
“You’re going home so early,” I commented. He rubbed the back of his neck, giving me a sheepish smile, “Well, I was glad that my boss brought me here in the first place.”
“Yeah,” I replied the smile with a playful one. From the distance I could see that his boss was back with two tickets in his hand. They were going back and forth by train. It took around one and a half hour by train.
“Time to go, Leo,” he said as he gave Leo a copy of the ticket. “We are going now,” he said to both me and Apple. We both introduced ourselves, me as Leo’s friend and Apple as my brother and it seemed like he bought our lie.
“Thank you for bringing Leo with you,” I thanked him. He was sure a really kind man, how I hoped my boss was as kind as him.
“No problem,” he patted Leo’s shoulder, “this guy has passion.”
I smiled in agreement, Leo sure had that.
Apple and I waved good bye to them as they entered the train.
“That was such a short meeting,” I told Apple as we went into the car, ready to go back home.
Apple’s phone then rang loudly with this funny ringtone, I didn’t pay attention to what he was saying, thinking it wasn’t my business, until he handed me the phone with a worried expression.
I took it hesitantly, curious about whom it might be. Apple refused to answer and I put the phone to my ear. “Hey, Robin,” the voice greeted me. A low, masculine voice that sounded distant and cold.
“Yes.”
I heard him laughing then, “Don’t be so nervous,” he said. How could I not be nervous? Looking at Apple’s uneasy expression, I could already guess that the caller was probably someone I should be scared of.
“I shall introduce myself,” he continued. “I’m one of the game makers.”
Then it hit me. He was one of the crazy people who made this ridiculous game. How should I respond?
“Well, Robin. You are a fun one to watch, actually. I know you broke the rule, though. That’s sad.”
Oh, no. He found out, how did he? Did Apple tell him? No, it doesn’t seem that way.
