I watched her run the gel on my tummy with the transducer. She had the screen facing her so I couldn't see anything. All I know is that when she finished rubbing, her eyes widened slightly.
"Is there something wrong?" I questioned.
"Ummmm... I don't know how to say this but it looks like you're pregnant." She told me.
"Wait... what?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
She turned the screen so that it was facing me now. Tears immediately came down my cheek as I saw the sight of a small fetus slightly moving in my stomach from the screen. I shut my eyes tight, covering my face as I thought about all of the times I completely disregarded the signs. The obvious signs. All those times when I would rather sleep for a whole day than hangout with my friends. The never ending headaches. The random backaches I would get throughout the day. The slight nauseating feelings I would get when I was near certain aromas. I completely bypassed all of that. I was so ashamed of myself.
"I'm guessing you're just now finding out." Dr.Kim said as she passed me a box of tissues.
"I am." I replied as I wiped my tear-filled face with one of the tissues.
"You didn't notice and symptoms or anything? Mood swings? Fatigue? Food aversions? Nausea?" Dr.Kim listed as I slowly nodded my head.
"I wouldn't say mood swings, just always happy lately. I definitely do get tired, especially after work. But I wouldn't think anything of it because I work long hours. The smell of coffee does make me feel kinda nauseous nowadays. And it's crazy because I have a cup of coffee everyday. Recently, I've been getting back pains throughout the day but I would just brush it off and say that I needed to stretch or something." I explained to her.
"I see..." She said, writing down a few notes on her clipboard. "Let me check your weight." She said before I got up from the bed and stood on the scale. She looked at my weight which read 126lbs. She wrote down a few more notes on her clipboard. "So I see a slight problem."
"What is it?" I asked, slightly panicking.
"It's nothing to worry about at the moment. I'm gonna ask you a thought provoking questions though. You can have a seat." She instructed before I took a seat in one of the chairs. "Alright, can you recall when your last period was?"
"Wow that's a great question." I said as I thought for a moment. I haven't had my period in so long. I've been too busy working that I never noticed it. I took out my phone and pulled out my calendar so I could see when I last recorded having a period. "My last recorded day for my period was on December 2nd."
"Oh wow..." Dr.Kim said, looking up from her clipboard.
"What is it?" I asked nervously.
"That means you're approaching six months." She told me as my eyes started to water again. "Your due date would probably be on September 9th."
"Are you serious?" I asked before burying my face in my hands again.
"I'm slightly worried." Dr.Kim confessed.
"Why?" I questioned, looking up at her as I prepared to hear more bad news.
"You're gonna be six months soon but you're barley showing. You have a teeny tiny bump that is very unnoticeable." She told me.
