The sun was slowly appearing on the horizon illuminating the once dark city. You could hear the sound of cars as the early workers made their way to work.

"Ye' think he's dead? He looks like he was attacked by a vampire or something."

"Nah, those don't even exist! And look, his breathing. Wait! Wha...- what the hell are you doin' man?! Stop poking him with your cane! What if he wakes up?!"

"The kid's bony as hell. I wouldn't be surprised if he never woke up."

A worn Reaper could be seen lying inside a not so empty container behind an apartment house. He was even paler than usual and his clothes were covered in small patches of blood. Two homeless men were looking at his small frame.

He suddenly stirred.

The men jumped at the boy's sudden movement, but one of them still continued to nudge him with a cane. The action had no result for a few minutes, then suddenly Reaper started tossing and turning in his sleep, his limbs flailing around.

"What the hell?! Dave, do somethin'!"

"Oi, kid! Hey, do you hear me? Wake up dammit!" The one called Dave shook the child's shoulder.

"I say, let's just leave him! He'll be just one of the many who die on the streets this time of year."

"So let's just let him bleed out?!"

Inside Reaper's mind
*Flashback*

Flashes of red and white. The smell of disinfectant in the air. What's this noise? It sounded like a door opening. Someone's coming. Someone's coming for him. Blurry figures entered his line of vision. White lab coats. Bad sign. He panicked. He started to trash about in his position. Wait. Was he restrained? He looked down. Sure enough he was bound to a surgical table. The blurry figures were coming closer, and closer and there was no escaping. He heard voices. He couldn't make out how many. Everything seemed so far away.

"So he's the one? But he's so... young."

"Since when was age a problem?"

He struggled as hands grabbed his face.

"He'll be very useful to us. Won't you, little one?"

Suddenly more hands were holding him down and there was a prickling sensation in his arm.

Everything turned to black.

*End of flashback*
Reality

Reapers body was convulsing and he was muttering some gibberish in his sleep. The men from before were now watching scared, the idea of just getting the hell out of there becoming more appealing by every second.

One of them turned around and started to run, but suddenly a little knife was thrown into the ground just before his feet. When he turned he saw that the boy was sitting up, his black hair covering his eyes. The next second the boy was on him, knife in hand and dazed eyed. It was like he was looking through the man and not at him.

"John White. 45. Burglary. Has been homeless for the past 2 years. No other information found."

The other guy fell to his knees and stared in disbelief.

Reaper raised the weapon above his head and was about to bring it down when a small, hard object knocked it out of his hands.

Alarmed he looked up, only to see a dark figure before he was thrown across the alley, against a wall.

Before him was the protector of Gotham himself: Batman.

As soon as the caped crusader appeared, the homeless guys ran away.

He glared behind his dark mask at the bat, but had a wide grin on his face. "Hi there! Is it Halloween already?"

The man just glared at him, not saying anything.

"Dang it! That's my favorite holiday and nobody cared to notify me!" he whined. "Why am I always left out of the fun?! This is underwhelming."

"Cut the play kid. You don't know the consequences of what you tried to do just now. You could get into something you might not want to."

"Oh, ohh! Is it trouble? I LOVE trouble!"

"Who are you and what were you doing? Did someone hire you?"

"Ah, so many questions. And I don't have the answers for you. It's kind of like a big secret." the boy sighed dramatically. "In fact, it's so secret that even I don't know the answers!" he laughed.

The Batman raised an eyebrow behind his mask.

"The truth." he held the boy up against the wall with an arm and leaned in close glaring.

"This was it!" he shouted. The man only pushed him harder.

"Geez, take me out on a date first." the arm was pushing on his throat, kind of cutting off his air supply. "O-okay, this is starting to hurt." he gasped. With that said, Reaper pushed forward and with all his might pushed the man away from him, grabbed his shoulders and used it to leap away from the bat.

Batman turned around to look at the kid more closely. How old could he be? 11? He was pretty small. His hair was black and disheveled. His baggy hoodie and jeans were covered in blood that seemed to be at least a day old. And was that a gun? "So he has done something a few days ago? Why don't I know anything about this? If there was a crime with a kid involved I would surely know..." the hero started to think.

His hands slowly made their way to his utility belt. He took out a few smoke pellets filled with sleeping gas. He threw them at the boy. When the smoke settled down the boy was nowhere to be seen. Surprised he looked around.

The little devil was sitting on a window sill just above his head

"But you know what? If you really want to call me something, call me Reaper." he grinned.

"You? You are Reaper? But you are just-"

"-just a kid. I know. But trust me," he looked down and opened his eyes wide. "I know lots of things."

He stood up and bowed theatrically. "It was a pleasure finally meeting you, Mr. Wayne." he stayed like that for a bit but when a batarang came his way, he disappeared with a cackle.
