Chapter 20: Phone Call

I heard the door bell rang. I just let it be. I’m making a reflection about the said events that happened to  me days ago, specifically three days. I can’t believed it, I stayed inside that four corners, white coloured room? And now I am stuck here to eat at the right time and sleep, now this is life. Nakakahiya naman kila Mama, bumiyahe pa ng malayo. I’m such a burden! And I worked so hard not to be one. Naghire rin ako ng katulong. Opps, let me correct that. He hired himself to be one, nakokonsensya ako dahil  five days din siyang nag-absent sa trabaho niya. 'He really cared for me!’ Arggh! this thought made my heart jolts, well not literally because heart never jolts. He’s been with me, my cook and my guy companion. I couldn’t help it but to smile at my thoughts of him. Ay! Minulat ko ang mga mata ko, tumayo at naglakad para buksan ang pinto. Tumutunog pa pala ang doorbell, so much for him. Asan ba ‘yun? Nandito lang ‘yun kanina ah?!

“What took you so long?” I heard as I open the door. Hindi siya humarap sa akin bagkus ay parang inoobserbaran niya ang likod laman ng bahay ko. Anong trip nito ngayon at pumarito? Napansin ko si Stephanie na paparating, kumakaway pa. Why are they here? Don’t tell, magkukwento ‘tong babaeng ‘to sa story nila? Ok? But I’m not ready! “How are you feeling?” Oh, right Ken is asking me. I let them in and close the door.

“Fine, fine!” I found my voice surprising. “ Ikaw ba naman ang doktor diba?!” I said teasingly as I followed them to my living room and seated. Oh I never took notice on the food they were holding. “So? What brings you here?”

“To check up on you.” Stephanie said with ‘are-you-serious’ face.

“I said fine a while ago right? So that means I’m fine.” I said smiling. Wait, why the hell was I smiling. I opened the pizza box and got a slice, shoved it inside my mouth.

“I know you’re fine, pero I’m sure you tend to puke the food you take some time and I’m sure mawawala lang ‘yan, maghihinay-hinay lang sa pagnguya.” Typical Ken, kahit nasa harap ng kanyang mga kaibigan nagsasalita parin ng mga ganyan. We have this rule kasi, that when were outside the hospital forget and were with friends that we are a doctor. Well, I guess we can’t help it. “ Seriously, hindi ‘yan ang pinunta namin dito. Ito kasing si Steph,  gusto kang makita. Her pregnancy hormones.” I laugh at Ken, though he said the later part inaudible but I clearly heard it. He’s afraid Stephanie might hear it.

I looked at Stephanie, smiling for ear to ear. Is that normal? “ Happy to see me Steph?.. Y-ou are so w-weird!” I said while laughing my ass off. She glared at me so I stop. Biglang lumapit si Saint, ba’t wala ‘to sa terrace? I touched his head and ruffled it, he’s so silent! Parang wala lang dito sa bahay.

“T-Thia.. P-pwedeng ilayo mo sa akin ‘yan?!” Stephanie shrieked. She immediately lifted her feet off from the floor. Ang laking aso kaya nito, kaya maabot parin siya. Stephanie love dogs, especially Saint. Oh yeah, how could I forgot. Pregnancy Hormones. I stood up as the door bell rang, I and Stephanie glance at Ken. Poor Ken. He stood up and walked towards the door as I walked towards the terrace. I grab Saint’s food and pour it on his bowl. I closed the glass sliding door to prevent him from coming in. Umupo ako ulit, hindi pa bumabalik si Ken. I saw a smirk on Stephanie’s face, bipolar ang bruha.

“ Thia! Boyfriend mo!” I heard Ken’s voice. Kung makasigaw, lagot ka sa mga kapitbahay ko! At anong boyfriend! Wala pa. Ba’t may ‘pa’? May plano na ba Thia?! “ Wala akong boyfriend!” Sigaw ko rin sa kanya. I receive a suspicious look from Stephanie, who is now munching on the cake. May cake and it’s chocolate, ‘wag na ‘wag palalampasin. I was about to reach for the cake when, Stephanie lifted the cake away from me. She just smiled sweetly. Ang adik ng bruha. Bumalik si Ken na nakangiti kay Stephanie. Natamaan talaga ang mokong. To my surprise Cyl is here. Why am I even surprised?! He’s with me always.. Like duh! Tumabi siya sa akin, ang bango! The after shaved and his manly cologne. Bagong ligo! Teka, nakaligo na ba ako?! Ayy kanina pala. He gave me a smile and I return the favour.
