Klaus's POV
Chapter 8: Date and Drama
My eyes open to the feeling of another person in the bed beside me. Lacey sleeps across from me, a smile on her face. She is so close, I can feel the heat coming off of her. Hybrids aren't usually warm, but everything about her is just that, from her eyes to her smile, her lips, her laugh. I watch as her eyes close, mine copy her actions, I felt myself slipping under, sleeping soundly. With her in my arms, nothing will touch us. I won't let it.

Lacey's POV
"I'm going to go take a shower. And no, you can't come with me." He chuckles, that smile of his giving me butterflies that erupt throughout my body, setting off dozens of censors I didn't know I even had. After I get ready, he takes my hand, leading me to the car, a glint in his eye. "Where are we going?" I ask, shocked and curious. "I can't go out of the quarter." He chuckles. "Who said anything about going out of the quarter? I'm taking you out."
There's that smile again. The one without the smugness. The grin that reveals the fact that he does have a heart. That there is humanity somewhere deep inside him. Elijah has reminded me multiple times that this smile hadn't been there in a long while until we'd met. I run a hand through my hair. I have my blue North Face jacket on, shielding me from the cold. I stare out the car window, the breeze runs through the trees. It seems to whisper through the branches, making them tremble.
The rush of tires against asphalt surrounds us in an overwhelming clatter. I don't even realized we've arrived until the car screeches to a hault. "A bar?" I ask a bit skeptically."Not exactly." He grins, I take his hand as he leads me inside. It's not a bar, but a restaurant, a diner. It's small but it's cozy. It's comfortable. Like a fireplace in a log cabin instead of a cold, empty mansion. It's no five-star, but it reminds me of home. It reminds me of the way a home should feel like.
The waiter smiles at us. "Table for two?" We nod, and the lady leads us to our table.
We make small talk, ordering our food and joking. It's lighthearted and easy. It's fun. It's home. But I suppose anywhere is home if you're with the right people.+ + + + +
After Klaus pays for the meal, I grab my coat. "Are you ready?"
Something catches his eye, his gaze turning distant and hard, like something is bothering him. "Hey? Are you okay? What's wrong?"
He rips his focused gaze lightly touching a finger to my chin. "I'll be there in a second, could you wait in the car? I'll only be a moment, I promise." I nod again as he gently kisses my cheek, and I head out the door without him.
I sit in the car, but I don't have the key. There's a bit of a chill...Scratch that, it's snowing. Ice covers the streets, and my nose grows redder from the cold by the second. Even though I'm in the car, it barely protects me from the outside weather. I pull my North Face jacket closer to my body, zipping it up all the way, and curling up in a ball in my seat. Apparently even as a hybrid, the weather affects me. My teeth chatter. The goosebumps on my skin prickle. And I do the unexpected... I... fall asleep...?

-HONNNNNNNNNNNNK-
I nearly fall out of my seat at this sudden car noise, I shoot up ready to kill the one who's disturbed me. I look out my window, it's Kol, laughing parked in the space beside me.
I open my car door to yell at him, only to be blasted by the cold air. Jeez.
He rolls down his window. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" I shout. He smirks. "Klaus got... caught up. He sent me to get you. Are you alright? You look freezing."
"Well excuse me, the cold affects the most humane in the society apparently. I'm FINE." I scowl.
He takes out his keys, and gets out of the car. "Are you sure?" He reaches out to touch my arm. "You're about to catch frostbite, get in my car. I'm taking you home."
"No way! I'll wait for Klaus or call Elijah or something. I'm not getting in that car with you. Not gonna happen."
"Lacey," He urges, there is actually worry in his voice, but maybe he's just acting. Kol isn't the caring type I guess. "Klaus told me to get you. It's very urgent that you're safe. You need to be home. You need to be warm. My brother will dagger me I swear to god if you're not safe. Get in the car."
I stand my ground, continuing to defy him. But now I am literally quaking and trembling, my knees feel weak like I might double over in the snow. I have to clench my jaw to conceal my chattering jaw.
"Look at you!" He exclaims. "Stop this! Please. Just get in the car. It's important."
I try to tell him that I really will wait for Klaus, as long as it takes, but that doesn't work so well. I'm so cold I can barely get out the words.
"Please. You're scaring me." He's begging now, and I'm scared. "K-k-kol..."
Ignoring my attempts, he interrupts. "Jesus Christ, Lacey!" He then grabs me, pulling me into some sort of hug. His arms are locked too tight to let me struggle, and after few moments, I melt. He's warm. I guess it's from the heat of his car...
And before I know it, I'm in shotgun.

"I get grumpy when I wake up." I finally mumble, breaking the awkward silence of the car ride after feeling majorly guilty. I'm stubborn, okay? It's a problem.
"I've noticed." Kol replies with a laugh.
"Thank you." I say, my voice filling with sincerity.
"Anytime." He smiles. And it's real. Not a smirk, but real.
"I will inform you of my brother's intentions when we're home with the fire going. I give my word."
"I believe you."
