The next month seemed to be the longest Sirius had ever endured. He tried to avoid anyone who wasn't James, Remus or Peter, and he found himself skipping class often.
It didn't go unnoticed by the Professors either, they noticed something was up by the lack of disturbance during class and the silence of the halls. The amount of detentions had lowered dramatically, the only students getting a detention being ones who hadn't finished their homework on time.
The other Marauders were really struck by Sirius's silence.
"Sirius?" Remus entered the dormitory one morning, to find his best friend sitting there with an upset expression, staring at the ground."
"The one person — outside of you guys — the one person I who thought actually cared about me — just left me, abandoned, like I was nothing. Everyone else in my life has, when are you guys going to? It's only a matter of time."
The door opened again. It was James and Peter.
"Mate, we aren't going to leave you, ever. No girl, no brother, no —"
"Psychotic mother?" Sirius chuckled.
"No psychotic mothers are going to tear us apart. Now come on Siri, let's go annoy the hell out of McGonagall!"
"Pyum Pyum Pyum!" Peter made his hands into guns and pretended to shoot them.
"Peter." Everyone groaned, chuckling slightly.
"Oooh! You can dance! You can jive! Having the time of your life!" Sirius was up on McGonagall's desk before Transfiguration that day, dancing away, causing the rest of the class to be sent into laughing fits.
"Having the time of your life! Oooh, see that guy, watch that scene! Dig in the dancing king!"
"Sirius, how do you even know that song? It's from a muggle movie!" Remus called out to him."
"Marlene!" Sirius called back.
"Friday night and the lights are low!" Sirius sang. "Looking out for a place to go! Where they play the right mus— Marls!" Marlene McKinnon entered the classroom and Sirius jumped into her arms. Surprisingly, Marlene caught him.
"You are the dancing queen! Young and sweet, only seventeen!"
Marlene, who usually couldn't handle Sirius at the best of times, gasped. "You're singing dancing queen!"
"Yes, I am! And you need to come join me — on McGonagall's desk!"
"Sure!"
"Dancing queen! Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah! You can dance! You can jive! Having the time of your life!"
"Miss McKinnon and Mr Black! Get down immediately! 20 points from Gryffindor, each! That is not how you act in a classroom!" McGonagall had entered the room.
"But Professor, we were simply singing. Because after all, you are the —"
"ENOUGH! Take your seats immediately and see me after class, both of you."
