Ch. 6 - Back on the Bus

So, I got lucky that Emily wasn't in any more of my classes. Wow.....I really sound like a wimp. Oh well.

Right now I am in world geography, waiting for the bell to ring. The work was way too easy and took like five minutes.

*RRIIIIINNNGG*

The bell rang, and everyone jumped out of their seats and headed for their locker. I got lucky my teachers said I don't have to worry about any of the other work from the beginning of the year. So, I only have one page for homework. Algebra. Ugh.

I was at my locker, putting things away, thinking about how I can't wait to get home when,

"BOO!"

"AHH!" I screamed.

"Ha! Gotcha!" Reed said.

"Oh, it's you, thank goodness."

"Who did you think it was?"

"I don't know. I'm just glad it wasn't Emily." Right when I said it, I wished I hadn't.

"Emily who?"

"Minks," I replied. Why am I still talking?

"Ohhh...she's uh...you know,...different."

"Yeah sure," I said.

"So, do you need any help getting to your bus?" he asked.

"Yes, actually I never learned where the buses are." I said.

"Okay," he smiled, "Follow me." He walked me outside and we sat at some picnic tables and waited for the buses to come.

"What's your bus number?" he asked me.

"Umm..." I had to get my schedule out because I wrote it on that, "Fifty-five."

"Really? No way! That's my bus!"

"Cool!" I said. So, we sat there and waited for our bus to come. Then, two seconds later, Emily walks up and sits down right beside us.

"Hey Reed," she said with a flirty smile.

"Um...hi," he said. Then everyone just sat there in silence while we waited for the bus. When our bus pulled up, we all got up to get on.

"Ladies first," Reed said as he smiled at me.

"Awe, thanks. Such a gentleman," Emily said, then pushed me out of the way. I almost fell. Then she pulled Reed on the bus behind her. So I had to get on last. When I finally got on, I saw Emily trying to get Reed to sit with her. When I walked up, Reed saw me and said,

"Where do you wanna sit?" he was totally ignoring Emily, and she was ticked. She started cussing at me, and then Reed grabbed by hand and pulled me back to sit with him.

"Yep, I told you she was different," he said. I laughed, and then we just started talking about our day. I played it off like it was just fine, even though it was horrible. Then he started talking about this school and how he knew I'd like it.

After the bus driver had dropped off most of the kids, including Emily, Reed asked,

"So, where is your stop?"

"Right up here," I said.

"Oh so you're the one who moved in at the top if the hill?"

"Yeah...."

"Cool I live down that street too." So, he lives down the street.....the only other house down this street. For once today, I'm actually lucky. Maybe I actually do have a friend. A guy friend.. Wait... I don't even know his last name.  I don't know why I thought about tris all of a sudden but now I'm curious. Would it be weird if I just asked out of nowhere? Oh well, I'm going to ask anyways.

"Hey, just wondering...,what's your last name?" I asked as we were getting off the bus.

"Deming," he said, "What's yours?"

"Reynolds," I told him as we started walking down the long, long, street. Finally, I am on my way home.
