Ch. 24- Birthday Girl

Reed's POV

After I had dinner, I went to my room and plopped down on my bed. I really don't want to go to school tomorrow. I mean it's not like I've missed a lot of school or anything, so one day won't hurt. Maybe I could go over and see Faith...

I lied there contemplating for I don't know how long, but before I knew it, it was 11:00. I should really get some sleep, I thought. I decided it would be best to go ahead and go to school tomorrow. So I set my alarm for 6:30 and went to sleep. Or at least tried to. I haven't gotten good sleep for the past couple of days.

As Blake and I waited at the bus stop, I didn't say a word. All of a sudden I heard some kind of vehicle. I knew it didn't sound like the bus, so I took a couple of steps back from the road. Then, a small car that I've never seen before pulled up next to us. The windows started rolling down, and right when I saw the blonde hair, I knew who it was. I rolled my eyes.

"Hey Reed. I just stopped by to see if you wanted a ride. It was my birthday this weekend ya know? I didn't hear from you."

"I didn't know, sorry."

"Well...?" She sat there staring at me.

"What?" I asked. I'm really not in the mood for this.

"You gonna tell me happy birthday?"

I tried my best to contain my frustration. I took a deep breath and said, "Happy late birthday," and gave a fake smile.

"Awe thanks. Yeah I got this car for my birthday. It's pretty nice."

"Cool." I wish I could have my own car, then I could drive to school and not worry about her. But the only car we have is my moms.

"So, are you getting in or not?"

"Um, no thanks. I'm gonna wait here with my brother." I said, thinking that would get rid of her. I should've known better.

"He can come too...I guess," she said. Blake looked up at me and gave me a look that screamed no. I agreed.

"No, we're good riding the bus," I tell her a little more forceful this time. She still didn't leave.

"C'mon, you can't really want to ride the bus that badly. The bus is terrible. Just get in the car."

"You just go on ahead. The bus will be here any minute."

"Oh I see what you're doing. You're waiting on what's her name," she said as she rolled her eyes.

"That's kind of a sore subject," Blake said. I backhanded him in the arm. "Hey, what was that-"

"Shut up," I said quietly through my teeth. I looked up at Emily and she was laughing.

"See," she said, "I knew this would happen. She's not a good person. So save yourself the pain and come with me." I stood there without saying another word. "Okay, then. I have a compromise. If I leave now, you have to ride home with me after school."

I was so frustrated and wanted her gone so badly that I said, "yeah sure whatever."

She smiled, "Good. See ya then." And drove off.
