"CHANCE!!" I screamed looking underneath the porch. He wasn't there!
"Come here boy! Im so sorry!!" I felt awful, what if he was hurt? I looked around some more. I was almost in tears. Omg! There lying underneath a tree branch was Chance. There was a deep cut on his back and scratches all over.
I knelt down to look at Chance. He looked very hurt.
"OMG! This is all my fault."
I said checking if he was breathing. He was barely breathing. I sat crisscross and put Chance on my lap. His back had a large cut and he was all dirty. I put a small amount of pressure on his paw and he began to whimper. I didn't know what to do, I couldn't tell Ms.Burkley and I didn't have a car to take him to the hospital. I laid Chance on the ground. I kissed his head and ran inside. I got a cardboard box from the hall closet and a red and green plaid blanket as well. I went into the bathroom and got out some cloth to wrap Chance's paw. I put it all in the box and closed it up. I grabbed a blue bowl and filled it with water, then I grabbed a granola-bar and bolted out the door. I grabbed the door knob but I heard somebody say:
"Where you going Jessey?" It was Lyssey licking a lollipop and swaying back and forth. I quickly put the box behind me and put the bowl behind me as well.
"Oh, nowhere." I said struggling to smile.
"If you don't tell me I'm going to tell on you!" Jee, this little girl had an evil side but I couldn't tell her.
"You wouldn't understand." I said making sure Chance was okay in the back. I didn't have time for this!
"Ms.Burk-"
"Okay, I'll tell you, jeez! Come on." I said motioning towards the door. I bolted down the stairs and put the box on the floor. I laid the blanket down in it, scrunching up part of it to create a pillow. I laid Chance in it and wrapped his paw slowly, I secured it with a bobby pin from my hair. I put the water right next to the box and made sure he had enough shade underneath the porch. I slowly fed him the granola bar and told Lyssey everything. Once I was done I said:
"You can NOT tell! Okay?" I asked putting out my pinky signaling to do a pinky promise. She nodded and we locked pinkies.
"Please get better Chance." she said while getting up, "When can I come see Chance?"
"Everyday, I'll come and get you in the morning at 9."
"Okay." We walked up the stairs, I felt terrible about what had happened to Chance.
"Jessey?" Lyssey said while I opened the screen door.
"Yeah?" I said walking into the house, taking off my shoes.
"Is Chance gonna die?" She asked taking a seat on the couch. I struggled to get out the words,
"No, he wil- he'll be alright" I tried to smile but I, I just couldn't. I say down on the couch and grabbed the tv remote. I turned on ABC Family and "The Wizard of Oz" was on. I left it on.
"My parents..." Lyssey began to say, "They loved this movie." I felt awful. Lyssey is just too young.
"Aww, really?" I asked in total awe.
"Yeah, until they died." Lyssey said strongly.
"How?"
"They worked for a company. I think it was called, Travelers. Nobody knows how they died." Wow, that name sounded very familiar.
"It's alright" I said hugging Lyssey. I just need to figure out the history of that name.
