obsolete poetry

meaning is derived from what affects us, and hovers around objects that the emotion left long ago

this is why we read obsolete poetry, and assign to it our own dry calculations

even if we no longer feel
what we claim such words inspire

when you read this
a moment of thought,
suspended on paper

can you feel the frustration,
thick and heavy

hanging over your head like a dead leaf of mistletoe,
left over and unclaimed
in the heat of the summer?

i doubt you can
though you may
cling to empathy

i wouldn't call it poetryWhere stories live. Discover now
