Prologue

The beginning of the school year was always an excitement for students of all ages. Friends were reunited and first years' eyes were gleaming with excitement to see what was in store for them for the next seven years. Abrienne Potter and her twin brother, James, were first years. Their parents, like others, had dropped them off at King's Cross inside Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters fifteen minutes before the Hogwarts Express was due to leave, tears in their eyes and large, proud smiles plastered on their faces. Abrienne's mother had bid her goodbye with a bone crushing hug and a small box that she was told to open on the train. Her father had kissed her forehead after pulling into a hug that resulted in him throwing her over his shoulder. He whispered into her ear that he would miss her greatly, then pat her on the head and sent the twins onto the train after bidding James goodbye as well.

"Do you think they'll really miss us?" James asked as they boarded the train, looking for an empty compartment.

"Of course they will, James. They'll miss us way more than we'll miss them!" Abrienne rolled her eyes at her brother, but tried to make him feel better nonetheless. James was a momma's boy, and Abrienne swore he had separation anxiety when he was apart from their mother.

Abrienne and James soon found an empty compartment and both sat down opposite each other, looking wide-eyed out the window at the busy platform. Abrienne then turned her attention towards the small box her mother had given her. She quickly tore off the red wrapping paper and was met with a rectangular necklace box. She opened the black box and her eyes widened at the sight of a beautiful silver necklace with one moon charm dangling from it that glittered in the light. James helped her put it on and they sat back, about to look out the window at the platform when a knock was heard on the compartment door. The twins simultaneously looked at the door, where three boys were standing impatiently outside, waiting for one of the siblings to open it. James let them in after they all asked "Is this compartment full?" and the three of them sat down around James and Abrienne. One of the boys, who had dark hair and eyes that sported a mischievous glint held out his hand to James.

"I'm Sirius Black. That's Peter Pettigrew, and that's Remus Lupin." Sirius shook James' hand, pointing to a small, mousey-haired boy with large, frightened brown eyes, and another boy with dusty brown hair and coffee-coloured eyes.

"I'm James Potter. This is my sister, Abrienne," James replied, pointing to his twin. "are you first years?" James asked, looking at the boys.

"Yes, you are too?" Remus asked. The twins nodded.

The rest of the train ride was full of laughter and hyperbolized stories that left Abrienne with happy tears in her eyes and a sore stomach from laughing. Sirius and James had become very fast friends, and Abrienne already knew the four boys would never split up.

After the arrival at Hogwarts, the five friends were sorted into their houses and invited to eat a feast with their new houses. The boys had gotten into Gryffindor whilst Abrienne was sorted into Hufflepuff, along with two girls that Abrienne sat with. Felicity Diggory was a tall girl with long, dark brown hair and a smile that could light up a room. She was related to a third year, Amos Diggory, whom was also in Hufflepuff. Felicity explained that she was expecting to be in Hufflepuff, as it had run in her pureblood family for decades. Antoinette Elizabeth was about as beautiful and elegant as her name implied. She was a muggleborn who's parents were very fond of the royal family. She had short blonde hair and blue eyes, but her hair was wavy and elegant and her eyes were like the arctic ocean; icy blue and piercingly beautiful.

The three girls talked throughout dinner, as well as the boys at the table opposite them. Abrienne noticed James talking to a sweet-looking red haired girl. He was making a fool of himself and she looked increasingly uncomfortable as he and his new friends got louder and more obnoxious. Abrienne pitied the girl for a moment, but was soon brought back to attention by her new friends.
