It was October 30th, the day before Halloween, and Abrienne was thrilled. Halloween had always been her favourite holiday, however, she was stuck in the library, studying for her O.W.Ls. She knew she had until the end of the school year, but she wanted to get a head start, as she always did. Felicity had stayed with her for awhile and finished homework; after awhile she decided to leave to find Antoinette.
Abrienne had wanted to spend her day in Hogsmeade with the marauders, but they had left earlier than she would have thought, so she had decided to just stay in the castle. It had only been a few hours and Abrienne was already bored, but she pushed herself through her an Arithmancy book she had chosen. Arithmancy was hardly her favourite subject; she almost hated it as much as Divination, but she had promised Felicity and Antoinette she would take it instead of a free period. Her book droned on until finally Abrienne finished it, closed it, and got up to place it back on the shelf. She had a feeling at least one of the marauders would be back by now. Felicity and Antoinette often stayed for the entire day, so Abrienne wasn't able to spend time with them. She hoped Remus was back; he was a good friend and she enjoyed talking to him.
Abrienne stretched out her shoulders, grabbed her school bag full of books and homework, and walked out of the library and towards the Great Hall. The doors were opened and she could hear from a distance the chatter that passed throughout the hall. When she walked in she didn't spot any of her friends; she hadn't expected to see them anyway.
She took a seat at the Hufflepuff table and began filling her plate with chicken wings and mashed potatoes, instantly beginning to stuff food into her mouth. She had missed breakfast to head straight to the library and she was hungrier than she thought. Abrienne had been stuffing her face for no longer than a minute before someone plopped down beside her. She looked to her left to see her roommate, Olivia Oak, smiling brightly at her. Fighting back a roll of her eyes, Abrienne forced a smile and swallowed her mouthful of food.
"Hey, Abrienne!" Olivia smiled and picked up a roll from one of the large platters, ripping it in half and taking a dainty bite.
"Hello Olivia," Abrienne reluctantly replied, wiping her mouth. "what are you doing here? I thought you'd have gone to Hogsmeade with your boyfriend, Tommy?" She had to guess the male's name, as she wasn't sure whom Olivia had her claws dug into at the moment. She was always with someone new, and it was getting hard for the girls to keep up.
"His name is Joseph, and no, he decided to go with his friends instead, so I'm stuck here to scope out the remaining hot guys. I've got to keep my options open, am I right?" Olivia smirked and Abrienne almost choked on the food she had just stuffed in her mouth.
"Uh, yes, I suppose." She coughed. Olivia was the type of girl to always have another guy ready for when she breaks up with her current one at the moment. Abrienne shouldn't have been surprised to hear that Olivia was already looking for another boyfriend, but she couldn't help it.
"Anyway, how are you doing in the guy department?" Olivia winked and Abrienne choked once again. She had to cough multiple times to keep from choking on her food, resulting in a few stares from fellow Hufflepuffs sitting near them.
"The guy department?" Abrienne repeated. She thought for a minute, how was she doing in the male department? She hadn't had a crush since first year, and she found that it was short-lived. It was on Sirius, which was quite obvious, as everyone had a crush on him one time or another. He was a heart-breaker and a flirt, and he had managed to draw in Abrienne for a short time. She had made her crush on him obvious and they had even kissed once, but once she realized she saw him as more of a brother, her feelings quickly subsided. Sirius had actually been upset about her sudden change in feelings, as she was beautiful and he thought they were meant to be for awhile. Eventually his perspective changed too, and the two often laugh about their past feelings. "I don't really fancy anyone at the moment." She said, trying to ignore the dumbfounded stare on Olivia's tan face.
