Mr. Parker told me to check in after school today so I'm walking to his classroom now. I'm just about there when I over hear something I shouldn't. Come on Lily walk away before you get too inv- it's Flynn.
"I got fired again because they said I wasn't paying attention to the customers enough," Flynn sighs.
"Maybe, if you'd take your-"
It's Athena. What are they talking about? Wait! What am I talking about? I shouldn't be listening.
"Athena, would you just back off! I don't want to and I won't. Stop pestering me," Flynn snaps.
"It would help with all the-"
"Would you stop talking? Why should I even listen to you? You aren't even my real sister," he snaps making me hold back a gasp.
There's a pause in the conversation. Is Athena going to cry? Is Flynn going to apologize? That was pretty harsh. One time I thought about saying something like that to my adopted cousin but felt bad just thinking it. Maybe, I'm just a wimp.
"Oh hell no," Athena starts no trace of sadness in her voice, "you aren't cutting me out of your life again. Don't you remember what happened last time? I'm just trying to help."
What happened last time? How does she stay so calm? Flynn is the only one yelling. I would be yelling if I was her. I mean last time I had a fight with Flynn I yelled.
"I-I don't-"
"Don't say you don't need-"
"That isn't what I was going to say," he interrupts her interruption in the saddest voice I've ever heard him use. "I was going to say I don't deserve it," never mind that was the saddest voice.
"Flynn," Athena sighs probably playing with her hair like she always does when she doesn't know what to say.
"Just leave me alone," Flynn mumbles walking out of the room and inevitably bumping into me.
He steadied both of us before actually realizing it's me. When he does he hides a smile before walking away. What was that? Athena comes jogging out of the room after Flynn but sees me and stops.
"Did you hear anything?" Athena asks and I lie and shake my head no. "Good."
"Is there something I shouldn't know about Flynn?" I ask actually getting a little scared.
"Oh! No!" Athena assures me, "he just has something personal that he should tell you about if he ever does. But you know that won't happen because you guys will 'never' be friends."
"What was with the air quotes around never and all the sarcasm?" I question but she smirks running toward the direction Flynn went.
I don't understand those two. I shake my head before continuing my way to Mr. Parker's room. The walk doesn't take too long considering I stopped for a detour.
Mr. Parker is in his room correcting papers when I get there. I knock on the open door to get his attention before walking in. He looks up and gives me a small smile.
"Hello, Lily," he says ushering me to sit in the desk in front of him.
"Can I ask why I'm here?" I question sitting down where directed.
"It's about Flynn," he admits and my mood drops down to the floor.
"Flynn's a-"
"He's improved. I don't know what you're doing but he's actually learning the stuff," Mr. Parker muses.
"Mr. Parker I can't be his tutor anymore," I gulp and his smile drops like my mood.
"Why not?" He asks a little too harshly then needed.
