As Sam walked down the wide mountain path, he opened his status screen to get a heads up on the name of the new area. It was called the Stone Valley, which seemed more apt to Sam the more he walked. Plant life thinned more and more as Sam made his way downwards. The path ahead as well as a great deal of the valley below was made of grey stone and nothing else.

Sam came across his first enemy of the Stone Valley not too far from where he entered the area. He had mistaken it for a pile of rocks, but when it jumped to life and started rolling towards him, Sam quickly drew his weapon remembering how the Stumpies had nearly killed him at one point. The rocky enemy barely came up to his knee as it rolled past him. It stopped itself from going over the edge of the path, so Sam ran up to it and punted it right off the cliff.

"Damn that thing was heavy," Sam said wincing at the fresh pain coming from his ankle and foot. "So I can be injured now too? I hope that's not right. It didn't even give me any souls."

The pain only lasted for a few minutes which relieved Sam a great deal. Worrying about lasting injuries was the last thing he needed right now. There were, of course, more enemies down the path. He could easily spot the stony piles that were most likely to be enemies. Unfortunately, there was no discernible way to avoid them.

The next pile jumped to life and tried to grab Sam's ankle. Sam avoided it and stabbed at it with his Rapier. The attack barely did anything as his sword only scrapped the creature's surface. Sam attacked again with more power behind his blow. His intention was to pierce the creature's skin, but he had only succeeded in creating sparks where his sword had struck.

It smacked his blade away and tried going for his ankle again. Now that it wasn't rolling around Sam could see it more clearly. It had to legs to speak of, only a round rocky body and stubby little arms. It seemed to have small facial features like a mouth and eyes roughly carved into it as hollows. Each hole gave off a faint fiery glow.

"Maybe I should stab there?"

He did and the extra damage wasn't spectacular at all. The only thing he managed to do was piss the thing off. The glow inside of it intensified as it crashed through other non-moving piles of stone on its way rolling towards him. It was quick, but Sam continued to dodge it comfortably. It was a relentless little thing though and it could turn on a dime. It took nine more stabs to its glowing pints to finally do the thing in and once it was finished Sam was given five hundred souls for his efforts. (+500 Souls)

"Whoop dee-freakin' do!"

By the time he walked over to the next pair of rocky enemies, he realized what he would call them. Since they were made of rubble, his naming convention was rather simple.

"Alright, here I am Barneys. I already know you're there."

He had no way to pull them one at a time and he didn't think he'd have too hard a time with two at once. He inched a little closer to them and tossed a few expletives at them. They only responded when he ran out of insults and called them "dummies." They leapt right at his head.

Sam lowered his head, lifted his shield, and watched the two little idiots bounce off of it. He was surprised by the force of the dual blows.

"How the hell did you even do that with no legs?"

Sam mentally chided himself for even questioning fantasy videogame logic at this point. He followed his defensive maneuver with a flurry of sword stabs each one hitting the glow points of the little Barneys. They raged out, crashing into one another as tried to roll into Sam. He leapt over them and struck their weak points repeatedly.

"Damn, you guys have a ton of defense."

It took another couple of rounds of dodging and attacking before he was able to finish them both off. (+1000 Souls)One of them dropped an item. Sam picked it up and read its description.
