"Did he make it?" I ask the little pony as she wakes up.
"Torch made it... I wish I had too..." she says drowsily, her eyes half open and her voice trailing off like she's under some sort of spell.
Even though I don't know the Burn Canira, I feel obliged to make sure he gets back to his home safely. It's a strange, primal desire- the type I didn't even know I had in me.
I wait in the cage, and then, trying to squeeze through the bars, I end up blasting them in frustration. Darn, that's going to leave a mark. I'll just tell the Obsidians a prisoner was annoying me. I couldn't make them out, but their yapping is just too much. There, that should work.
I pride myself on the lousy cover up. I don't know what I'm trying to accomplish here, I just want to be anywhere but that cage. I decide to take a walk through the hallways. I own them, after all. I am the Obsidians' ultimate creation. Ultimate in power, ultimate in style, and now the ultimate in kicking their butt when they don't even know that I'm against them. Heck, even I don't know at this point.
Some part of me just longs to be out of the terror and ruin. There was something before- something I'm fighting for. I just can't recall it now. The conviction is just so strong that I know I have to follow it, so I do.
I walk past a especially lonely hallway, and something makes me stop. Lights flicker on and off in a foreboding way, and an Obsidian walks up to me and says, "Wouldn't go down there. Nasty place."
"What happened? If there is trouble, I will dispose of it for my masters." I say in my most robotic voice. I almost gag on how forced it was, but it seems to fool the Obsidian.
"Yes, that would be nice. See, one of our experiments involved a crossbreed of three Canira- Dragon, Flash, and Thunder. It was all going pretty well until we added the Thunder Canira DNA in at the end and our circuits overloaded. That entire part of the lower floor is blocked out by broken equipment, but life sensors indicate that the Lucifer Canira are still down there."
"E-238472-Codename-Dark Rainbow at your service."
"Good."
I run down the stairs to the next floor. It will at least be more fun then sitting around listening to other Canira rot in cages, even if it's no dream job. I walk down into the cold alleys, dark and empty. I hear a hissing noise and my fur stands on end. I look around, but I can't see anything. I squint into the darkness and a huge, roaring beast lunges at me, covered in lightning.
I hold up my wings instinctively, but they work like lightningrods and the electricity runs through me. Everything begins slowing, and my heartbeat is nonexistent. Confused and tired, my head bonks against the stone cold floor and I pass out.
When I finally wake up, I'm in a small glass cage, pinned down by the paws and wings. Annoyed, I grit my teeth and try to blast the cage, and it shatters. Shards fly at me but they don't hurt at all, even if they bleed.
I stamp my paw down and gaze around through the darkness. "Who's there? Where am I?!"
"She's awake." says a voice out of the darkness. I see a white eon glowing in the darkness, glassy eyes staring intently at me.
"Wait, what? Where am I?" I swing my head, looking for some sign of where I am. I see nothing but them closing in around me on all sides. More like him, staring at me with those creepy empty eyes.
Finally, one says, "this is the one".
"Will someone please explain what's going on?!" I say, scared.
One of them walks to me. All of them are the same size, the same body shape, the same everything. The boys look slightly different from the girls, but that is all. This one stands out, because he has a broken leg. He grimaces slightly but looks strong in spite of dragging the scabbed-up leg across the cold stone. "You are E-238472-Codename-Dark Rainbow, correct?"
I nod slowly.
"Yes. Good. We need your help to get home to Dreamland. See, this part of the Factory contains a large database and a testing chamber, from which we were born. We, the Lucifer Canira, have great technical prowess but none of us has the raw power required for opening a portal. That's where you come in."
"What portal? Are you all crazy?" I begin to back up, but they're behind me too, eyes sparkling and huge smiles.
"We took some spare parts and made... this!" One young Canira says, pulling the cover off a huge circle of metal, big enough to fit two fully grown Canira in the widest point.
"What is it?" I ask.
They stare at me like I'm stupid. "It's a portal, duh." says one. "What did you think it was, a giant ring?"
I touch the machine, wondering how I'm supposed to power it. One of the Lucifer Canira, the one with the broken leg, points me back to the glass crate. "We'll hook you up in there."
I stare at him, but decide it would be better not to argue. They hook me up and I focus all my strength into a powerful blast, but the machine only glows feebly.
"Hmmm. You're going to need some training." he says.
I nod, exhausted.
"Well, I should just go back. I'll come here later." I begin to walk towards the stairs but the Lucifer Canira stops me, surprisingly swift for someone with a broken leg.
"No! Do you even know how long you've been out?! The Obsidians will know something's up if you go back. They've already almost destroyed the place looking for you, but we lead them a false trail with some fur and a few scent removers. They don't suspect a thing."
"How long have I been out?"
"Hmmm.... Maybe three days? Four?"
I stare at him blankly. "Say what now?"
"Listen. We can keep you down here for as long as it takes. We've looked at the Obsidian database-"
"How did you get into the Obsidian database?!"
"Well, we had a computer. I told you we were good with technology. Anyways, one of your main powers is disappearing into shadow, leaving no trace. Can you do that?"
I flicker out of sight into pure darkness. "Yes." I whisper, unable to make loud noises in my shadow form. "It's hard but I can."
"Well, you can go get food for yourself in shadow form, so you should be fine."
"How about you guys?"
"We live on electricity, and this place is crawling with it. Got to thank the Obsidians for making us like that."
"They made you too?"
"Yup. One of their finest works, not counting you."
"Well then. We better get to work. We've got a portal to power up."
