I run down the halls, Tobi holding my wing. "I'm scared, Avery." He whines.
"It'll be okay," I reassure him, walking into the next row of cells. Tobi jumps on my head and sticks a twig he grew off his tail into the lock, which clicks open.
"You sure your tail is okay?" I ask Tobi, watching a particularly zippy prisoner, probably one who's been there for only a few days, jump out of the cage.
"I can grow a new twig. That's one of my specialest powers." he says proudly.
"Specialest is not a word." I tell him.
"Lady, we're in a war. If I want it to be a word, it can be a word." Tobi says indignantly.
I roll my eyes. An Obsidian jumps at me from the back of the room, and I poke him with my horn. The Obsidian claws my wing, but Tobi hits him with his pointy twig and I blast the Obsidian with a ball of pink energy from my horn.
I walk back out, twenty prisoners behind me, and see Dark Rainbow and Torch fighting a horde of Obsidians. The prisoners put up a valiant fight, finally free from their cages. Now that they're all together and have power in numbers, they stand strong and tall. I see a dragon fighting alongside a small, winged cat and a unicorn with wings blasting Obsidians left and right. Unfortunately for us, they reform from obsidian fast and regroup faster. On top of that, there at least twenty legions of them.
One of our fighters falls behind me with a thump. I see the clawmarks and try to fix them up, but it's Tobi who reaches down and places his paws on the body. A green energy spreads throughout the chest and the wounds heal.
"Wow, that's amazing, Tobi!" I cheer.
Tobi is perspiring and panting. He passes out across the body, and I tuck him back between my wings. An Obsidian tackles me and I hit back, careful not to upset Tobi. I kick the Obsidian in the left flank, which doesn't seem to hurt it, but does force it a good way back.
I lunge at another Obsidian, in the shape of a larger cat itself, who picks up the little winged cat, and threatens, "Any closer and I kill him."
I back off, and look for a good shot, and the Obsidian laughs. "You really fell for that? You stupid-"
I blast it with a laser beam, nearly missing the little winged cutie. I pick the little kitten up and bring him back to the middle of our fighting force, along the other wounded.
Endless compassion pouring out of me, I struggle to care for the wounded, but I have nothing to heal them with. Some are beyond help, but others could still be saved. I focus all of my energy into my paws, and they glow pink. "Let's hope that these powers actually work as well as they did back in the clouds."
I place my paw on someone's bloody back, and the wounds close up as if they had never been there.
I feel powerful, alive, and perfect. This is what I was born to do. Helping others, healing them with a touch, and seeing those weary smiles. I feel for all of them as if I have known them for my whole life, care for them as if they were my children.
"It's okay. I'm here." I comfort a dragon twice my size at least, even though I'm scared of his huge, sharp teeth.
"We're going to win this. We're going to get you home." I say.
He closes his eyes and opens them slowly, a curl of smoke coming off of his nose. "It's okay. It'll all be okay."
