I sneak through the halls, only dark wisps of vapor visible as I walk. Obsidians pass by me, and one even walks through me in my shadow form. I grit my teeth as it happens- it tickles to have the smooth stone passing through me but even a giggle will reveal me and I'll end up back in a cell.

I smell meat, and even though I know where a good storage is, this one is closer. I tiptoe into the room, and I recognize it as the testing room. I smell something else on the air- something I have smelled little of since... even I don't remember. The thought is gone, whisked away like so many others that pop in and out of my head. I'm still not sure if it's a byproduct of testing or if I'm just completely insane.

This is the Obsidian Factory, of course I'm flipping insane.

Two eyes, pink and glowing, stare at me through the darkness. I walk closer, intrigued, to find it's Cherry Blossom. Her mouth is open and her eyes are glassy. Burned stumps of wings are straight up, each singed birdlike feather standing on end. It's really eerie. "Cherry?" I whisper.

"Fire, water, dark and air... Face the Fourth if you dare..."

She passes out. I stare for a second, not sure what to make of the whole thing, but I can tell that Cherry is in a coma and she's going to die. I'd give her more food, but right now the point is keeping her alive. I unclick the lock and pick her up. The Obsidians might not be able to see me, but they're not stupid, and when they see a tiny gold and pink pegasus being lifted by nothing, they can put two and two together pretty quickly.

I use my wings for elevation, turning the corner, my stomach growling, and run headlong into an Obsidian. Her blank eyes look up at me and her mouth (currently, she's a dire wolf) curls into a snarl.

I can't use any powers in my shadow form, and turning back to normal is just going to remove any chance I have of not being recognized. After all, the odds they've made another experiment that can change into shadow is decently high. The chances of having one who's not brainwashed and is intelligent enough to escape is not.

When she yells, "I've found E-238472-Codename-Dark Rainbow!" I know that I'm in trouble. So I do the sensible thing and turn back to normal and hit her in the face. TIny splinters of obsidian fly everywhere, leaving a huge crater in her face. Even though I know I've only succeeded in making her mad, she does have to stop for a second and put her paws over her face in shock.

I hear alarms going off- she must have notified someone. Security cameras line the walls, but I hit one with the pointy edge of my wing and go back to shadow form. Unfortunately, I've used too much energy. There's only one safe place to go now- downstairs.

I put her down when I make it to the Lucifer Canira's base.

"We don't have much time." I pant, "I'll power up the portal. Can you save her?"

The broken-legged Canira dips his wings. "Yes. It is time, my friend."

I jump into the machine and begin powering it up. Like usual, the portal whirs to life. I hear a blast of electricity, and Cherry screams. A humming noise fills the room.

Obsidians above are yelling and I can tell they've found us. Concentrating harder, the machine begins to suck in things from around the room. The Lucifer Canira jump in, one of them carrying Cherry Blossom. I breathe a heavy sigh of relief. However, the portal is beginning to close- I don't have much time. I run out of the machine to find Obsidians clambering down the stairs. I close my wings and jump. Time seems to stand still for a split second and then I'm through the portal, the screaming Obsidians words die out behind me. I'm falling, but one Obsidian has made it through.
