Chapter 20: Finale (part 3)

(Marco's POV)

I hit the ground with a thud as J.A.M.I.E drops us and dissolves into the drain. I look around frantically for Star, she is nowhere to be found. I look up to see her falling from the last remains of the creatures hand. I run as fast as I can and catch her before she hits the floor. I put her down and she wakes up. I kiss her. "I almost lost you once, I'm never losing you again."

She smiled. "Don't worry, you won't get rid of me that easily Diaz."

I help her up and we smile. I hear a shout from behind me. I turn around and see Zach beckoning everyone over. I run up to him to see everyone huddled around Queen Butterfly. Zach had a pair of handcuffs. "By the order of Teen Titans and on behalf of Jump City and Earth, I place you under arrest."

The king came over and slapped away the handcuffs. "Don't. This isn't her. She's being controlled. I've been running some tests..."

"How, it's been like 2 seconds since you defeated the monster."

"Anyway, I've been running some tests and found out she's been possessed. The reason she is so evil is because all her emotions have been purged. She doesn't know different because she doesn't feel."

Star looked confused. "What do we do?"

The king scratched his head. "I don't know. I guess we have to make her feel. But that's going to be difficult. This is the strongest possession I've ever seen. Emotions can't get in."

Zach got an idea. "Avery, remember what I said on my wedding vows?"

"Of course. You said "love isn't an emotion, its a gut feeling that you know is right from the moment you feel it. Love can't be killed or taken away. Love is forever." She smiled. "I get it."

Zach nodded. "Make some love baby."

Avery held her hands above her head. They started to glow pink as she brought them down on to the queen's chest. Nothing. Avery repeated the action. Still nothing. Avery repeated one last time. The queen coughed and spluttered. As she coughed, a small dark cloud floated out of her and disappeared. She opened her eyes. "What happened?"

The king ran forward and hugged her. "My queen?"

"I'm here my love."

I looked on at the beautiful scene around me and reached for Star to hug her, but she wasn't there. I looked behind me. A dark gas cloud in the shape of a man was dragging her off with a blaster pointed to her head. "STAR!"

Star and the gas cloud looked at me. "Take one more step and I'll blast her brains all over the floor."

I was about to run after Star but Zach stopped me. "Why do this? What do you want?"

"I want to rule. I want power beyond your wildest dreams. I've been conquering planets for 2 million years. Possessing every person with power that I could manipulate. Now that you've thwarted my plans on this planet, I'm going to use this princes' wand to conquer another."

The gas cloud turned to run away but while he was talking, the rest of the team blocked his escape. He out his figure on the trigger. "If you don't move out of my way I'll kill her. There will always be beings of power to posses."

No one moved. We were calling his bluff. It was a mistake. I saw him pull the trigger. In one last vain attempt to protect her, I threw out my hand. "NO! STAR! NO!"
