This story is very different to Darly Jamison's other novels. It has an edgy hard feel to it, mixed with a crudeness of realism. Darly has stepped into the lives of the characters on the other side of the tracks, with a rawness she has not shown before in her writing. The result is a more grown up version of Darly, with characters who have flaws and complexities.
The main characters are Annie who strips for money and has seen the hard side of life whose close friendship with our main character Hudson, has endured throughout their childhood years and continued through their adult life.
Hudson is innocent and not experienced in relationships, after losing all of her family. She is a gifted artist with a sweetness that is rare.
Myles meets her when investigating the break in of a man who seems to be stalking her and they embark on a relationship in which Myles loses his heart.
The course of true love does not run smooth, when Hudson is attacked and surprising details come to light.
This book is full of twists and turns and unexpected surprises. You won't want to stop turning those pages and when you get to the end you wish there was more.
I have read several of her books, all of which I enjoyed and this is by far my favourite. This is Darly Jamison at her best, as her writing deepens and she becomes more confident as a writer. You won't be disappointed.
