Chapter 2:

After writing with Jake for awhile longer I took one look at the clock. It was 10 o'clock at night, I gave a sad face and pointed for Jake to see. "It's already 10? Well I will go and let you get some rest. I'm very sorry for keeping you up Ella."
Jake stood up and headed for the door but I didn't want him to go. "Jake..." I attempted to say again. It must have caught his attention because he turned around and headed back to me. "Do-o-nt-" Jake stop me from finishing my sentence by putting one finger over my lips. If you wasn't going to let me talk I'd have to silently tell him. Hopefully he's better at lipreading rather than the guessing games. "don't go please."
"Aren't you tired and want to few hours of peace? I wait for you in your dreams. The bags under your eyes could carry my moms whole grocery list. Try to get some rest," Jake softly rubbed the tip of his thumb under my eye.
I reached over to the table by my bed and grabbed a pen and paper. "do you have to go? We haven't talked in a few years and I don't know how much longer it will be before we meet again. Also, my googly eyed nurse scares me."
"Well if you don't want me to go home is it OK if I go by toothbrush from the mini store? I can be back in four minutes max." When Jake gives a time he's never late, always on time.
During the time he was gone, I thought a lot about the last time I saw Jake. From a guess I would say Jake grew at least 10 or 12 inches. The longer curly hair was now a normal short. Jake has made a huge change since eighth grade.
During summer break of 2010, Jake came over my house for a visit. At the time we hadn't seen each other in three years. Joanna let him stay the night so we could build a treehouse. It ended up taking three days to build and one day to decorate with pictures, rugs, beanbags, and a small table.
Exactly 4 minutes of past when I heard a knock on the door. Without waiting, Jake walked in with more than a toothbrush in his hand. "I brought you back and apple juice   with a popsicle. The only other food the doctors will lower the pancakes or applesauce."

After enjoying a snack with Jake, I decided to ask more questions. I wrote on the piece of paper: "Do you know what happened to me? All I remember is the door." Jake know what happened and I could tell because he put his head down.
"Yes I know what happened but I wasn't there to see it. I had gone to camp over by the Tar mountains. We were headed back from camp when I saw a dead bodies everywhere. I asked the bus driver to drop me off at your house to make sure you and the family were safe.
"by the time I got to your house I thought it was the end. Jessica your neighbor came to your house to make sure you were OK. Unfortunately she was shot your doorway. When you open the door was shot twice which is why you can't talk. Ella, you were shot next your voice box."
Jessica was more like a sister to me that a neighbor. She lived a long with her one dog Toby. Sleepovers were great with Jess especially when we would watch movies and eat popcorn. Losing my family, losing my voice, my home, and now Jessica is horrific.
At some point today I knew my bubble pop letting tears stream down my face. I cannot longer handle the literal and physical pain. The only part that held me together was knowing Jake was still there. I won't cry in front of him. A few deep breasts should help until Jake's asleep.
As I exhaled the second breath, Jake's focus broke from my face. "I think it's time to call the nurse before the flood there with tears." Just said, he pressed the colanders button. Within seconds it less creepy woman came in with a fluid bag.
"Is everything all right? Oh, I'm Ella's nurse Susan from midnight till noon," she said looking at Jake. Susan was already hooking up the IV fluids before Jake could answer.
"Well I was wondering if there was anyway we could put her to sleep." Small mutters bounced between the two of them but I had to ease drop. I knew that whatever they were discussing was about me so I had every right to know. Jake said something to Susan along the lines of 'if we don't find a way to get her to sleep then she might just wash the war away from tears.'
This made me angry that he was acting like this. Before, Jake was always a caring boy around me. Did he drink poison while staying at the camp? I don't know this Jake anymore. It's too late for me to worry about this now but I will come back to it again soon. Tomorrow.
Susan walked out of my room after talking with Jake for five more minutes. Once again he came to sit by me on the bed. "good night 'L. I'll be over there on the couch if you need me. Sweet dreams." Would you clock the way, I thought his fingers slide out of mine.
