Ice Cold Hearts

Chapter 3:

    I woke to bright sun in my eyes from the window above the couch. Although it's September when summer ends, the weather was still decent.
    Then I remember Jake laying on the couch last night when Susan came to check on me. He had a blanket and a pillow but neither of those nor Jake were on the couch now. Maybe he was up already or went home.
    My neck was still in pain when I sat up. Moving my head didn't help at all but I wanted to look around. Right as I reach for my bed handle, the bathroom door opened. Jake walked out with a smile, "good morning sunshine! Did I wake you?" He never called me sunshine for which made me laugh.
    When I tried to pull my legs out of the blanket, I got a sharp pain in my chest. Jake ran over to the bed to help me but there wasn't much he could do. While crying I hit the nurse button and waited for Susan to come in. Another nurse cumin, not Susan and it worried me. Susan was supposed to be my nurse until noon.
    "Hello Ella, I'm Molly. What's wrong?" Molly looked over to Jade so he could answer for me. Jake shrugged his shoulders in confusion. I pointed to my chest and tried not to move. "OK, let's try to relax. I'm going to lay back down on the bed. If I hurt you hold out a hand."
    Molly very gently placed one hand on my back and the other on my shoulder. Jake came to my left and did the same thing. With the bed in semi sitting position it wasn't a far lean back. Once they were done, the pain slowly decreased until it was completely gone.
    "Is there anything else I can help you with while I'm here?"
    Jake looked over to me "Ella?" I shook my head. "Nope, but thanks for helping." Without a word Molly walked back out.
    I was still curious on why I had a new nurse already. When I looked at the clock though, it said 1245. It's been about five years since I've slept in this late. Really, I should be happy that I could get rest but I wasn't.
    "What's on your mind Ella?" Jake you over to my bed again like you did last night. I pointed to the clock still looking at Jake. It upset me honestly.
    "yeah, I let you sleep it only because we were up late last night. You also looked peaceful while you were asleep so I didn't want to ruin it." How could I be mad at him? Besides embarrassment it was kind of him.
    I pulled out the pieces of paper from my back pocket that I slept on. "do you want to get some video games from the playroom?"
    When Jake read the note, he looks surprised. "You... Want to play video games? Since when?!"
    "Wendrew moved off to college she gave me the Xbox. I'm not great but I learned how to use the controller for most games."
    "What else heaven I learned about you? Seems like I missed a lot while I was at camp."
