Sleep crept into my eyes around four o'clock the next day. It had been awhile since I had stayed awake that late. Jake and I were up until two playing Mortal Kombat.
Doctors have been in and out of my room a lot today. They say I should be able to leave today as long as I don't hurt myself on the way out. I still can't walk so I need to take the wheelchair to get to the car.
Around four thirty I started to close my eyes until the IV pole yelled for more fluids. Jake put his phone down to get the nurse but she was already there. "I'm Lola, your nurse for the next hour. Since you only have an hour and you're well hydrated, I'm not going to give you more fluid. It's time to take the IV out."
Jake was on the couch laughing about Lola's name. He came over to my bed and asked if I needed his hand. I explained to Jake that I was no longer seven and that needles don't bother me. After Drew used to poke me with sharp toys, I learned that needles didn't really bother me.
"Alright," Lola said. "you may leave whenever you're ready. The papers are over there on the table, make sure you take 'em with you."
Lola walked out and Jake sat back down. "Are you excited to leave?" I shrugged and thought about leaving a little more. Pro: I don't have to sleep in the hospital and be with IV poles. Con: I don't know where I'll sleep at Jake's house...
I started to get up again the same way I had yesterday, except this time I didn't get paid. Jake jump up to bring the wheelchair over to me. I held out my hand to stop him. It was about 10 feet away and I wanted to walk over to it.
"Woah, woah there! Are you going to try to walk over here?" I gave Jake a two second smile then slowly sat up. "At least let me stand next to you in case you fall." And he did.
I took one step then felt a little unsteady so I grabbed Jake's arm and rebalanced. Nine, eight, seven steps I thought. You can make it Ella!
Finally after 10 steps exactly I had made it to the wheelchair. Jade help me set since my legs were starting to feel numb. After sitting, I realize I was holding my breath which might explain why my head was spinning.
When we reach the door of whatever hospital this was, I heard the guard say to someone else, "do you plan on bringing the wheelchair back? I wouldn't want that to be left in the parking lot to get hit by a car." Hearing that, I had to warn Jake.
"All right but I'm not letting you walk to the car." Jake put one arm under the bend of my knees and the other arm around my shoulders. The guard I heard talking before took the wheelchair, nodded at us, and said "have a nice day!"
Outside was breezy and light snow was falling from above. Honestly I wasn't very surprised that there was snow it here in September. My nose cleared as we kept going and I could smell Jake sent off his shirt. I rested my head against his shoulder and waited to reach the car.
When we finally reach the car, Jake sat me down in the passenger seat and lightly close the door. You walk to the other side of the car and within seconds we were off.
It was mostly a quiet ride except for music and the sound of the road under us. A few times we would speak up and I would talk about how different the land was from where I grew up. More trees less people, and more land.
You might be wondering why Jake live so far away but how we went to school together. Well that's because we both went to Westview elementary before he moved to Thornville.
"I hope you don't mind the drive. There probably is something you are used to very much being a city girl. Everything being an easy five minute drive." I shot a scowling look at Jake. He acts like he wasn't raised that way too.

After driving for 2 1/2 hours, we arrived at the Robin's house. Jake said the house was a little fancy but it was actually more fancy than my dream house. What I realized as soon as we pulled in was the side of the house that was being worked on.
"That, is your part of the house. All for you." Quite honestly I was surprised they were building me my own part of their house. Although I only plan on staying temporarily.
The excitement in my face must have grown as we got closer. " I'll take that smile as a 'thank you.' The doctor says your voice should be back very soon, if you were wondering."
Appreciation grew and grew and until I couldn't hold it in and I fully hug Jake. When we pulled into the large garage I realize there was three other cars parked. Who else was here?
I hold up three fingers asking Jade why. He told me the third car was for me as a surprise. As if the extension wasn't enough. Robin's family was spoiling me which even my own family never did.
