I got my schedule quickly and rushed back outside. Jake was playing around with Luke like they were rock stars. Jackson was standing in front of two girls, most likely being flirtatious. Just as I was about to step on the blacktop, I was rudely blocked. "Hey sweet cakes," a tall man said. The man was muscular and scary, just like in horror movies. Either the girl gets kidnapped or get into some week fight.
"May I help you?"
Muscle Man chuckled a little and looked to his two buddies that were standing next to him now. Before I knew it, one sidekick had my wrists behind my bad and Muscle Man was gripping my hips. "Get off me," I warned. This was the last one I wanted to start off my first day at a new school. But the warning wasn't enough for him. His hands were sliding to my back so I pulled my arms free, outgoing the sidekick in the ribs. He bent down and paid is I took the advantage of having his head meet my knee.
"Ooh's" and "ahh's" came from behind me while a crowd watch me fight. All I could focus on the word Jake's words repeating in my head, "please don't get hurt or start a fight with anyone." Technically I wasn't disobeying since I didn't start the fight, nor get hurt. Yet.
"Break it up!" Jake's voice cut through the crowd as he worked his way over to me. He looked the bigger man dead in the face but spoke to all three men, "if any of you ever touch all again, I swear it will be the last thing you ever touch!"
When he yelled, it scared me. "Jake come down please. I'm fine." And I was fine, honestly. I never felt more powerful.
"You may be fine but I'm not fine knowing these men are trying to hug you. L's, is nine or twice your size and can you put you back in the hospital with one hit. Do you know how much that would kill me?" By now he was being overly protective in front of all these people.
"I understand it would kill you but I'm not a little kid. I know how to defend myself. I have lived 16 years without you there to defend me."
The crowd had scattered off into the school so now it was just Jake and I. For second I thought you was done talking, but he wasn't. Jake added, "I will do as you say you don't come crying to me when there's no one to help you or defend you out there."
I tossed his keys to his feet and turned on my heels to start off on my lost adventure all I had with me was my phone, some money, my drivers license, and some pepper spray. Jake's voice sounded quiet from behind me Telma "don't forget that mom and Drew can't save you now. I will always love you Ella."
Tears ran down my face as I continued my journey down the long dirt road. What a great first day it's been. The past few weeks replaying in my head, remembering my last words to my brother: "I'm not going to miss you at all. So glad you'll be gone."
Those last words will haunt me forever if I make it past tonight. Cold, winter air blew at my legs, making me shiver more. I was a monster walking away with a ice cold heart.
