Chapter Nineteen

Charisma

Devin was such a huge help to me. He did so much to make me feel welcomed. Tonight, he was cooking me a decent home cooked meal. He made baked chicken with steamed green beans, and mashed potatoes with gravy.

"This is good," I said tasting the green beans, which were actually good, "I thought you was going to poison me and my baby."

"Damn, it's like that?"

"Hell yeah."

"But see? I didn't poison you. My cooking is straight up sexy."

I burst out laughing and took another bite of chicken.

"Wait till I get in that kitchen. You're going to be begging me to cook every night."

Devin got up and took our plates and put them in the dishwasher as I turned on the TV. "Let's watch the Color Purple."

"I wear red," he chuckled.

"You think you funny?"

"Hell yeah."

Suddenly we heard somebody banging on the door. I got up, and Devin walked over to the door. I kind of never noticed how cute he was. When he opened the door, he just froze.

"Cuz," I heard a dude yell as he pushed Devin aside.

He was light skinned with steel-blue eyes like Devin a little. He had a low cut and a mouth full of gold. "Damn, wassup, cousin? Long time no talk," he said as Devin closed the door.

"Charisma, this is my cousin Kemarc. Kemarc, this is Charisma." Kemarc turned to me and smiled and came over to kiss my hand. I couldn't help but smile at him.

"You're very beautiful, Ms. Charisma."

"Thank you."

"Alright, alright, out," Devin said walking in between us.

"Damn, same old Devin. So over protective," he laughed.

Wanting to give Devin and Kemarc a little time to talk, I got up with my hand on my back and my baby bump showing.

"Damn, Devin, I've been gone for two years, and you already got a baby momma?"

Baby momma? "Correct yourself, honey. Me and him are best friends. I don't like the term 'baby momma,'" I interrupted.

"I'm sorry, ma, I'm just used to that since my ex-girl is my baby momma."

"Little pimp here got twins," Devin said sitting on the edge of the couch.

"And I love those munchkins to death," he said taking out his wallet. He opened it and showed me pictures of two little girls. "The one on the left is Zara, and the one of the right is Zena."

They were so cute, and they looked exactly like him. They had long hair, light skin, and beautiful bright smiles.

"So how old are they?"

"They both are 4-years old."

They looked much younger in the picture. "Now, right?"

"Yeah, that picture was when they were 1. I haven't seen them since their mother filed a restraining order on me."

I felt sorry for him. I could tell he loved his kids.

"Where you about to go?" Devin asked me as I walked inside the room to grab my laptop.

"I went to get my laptop." I sat back down next to Devin.

"So ya'll together?" Kemarc asked, and I looked at Devin.

"No, we're best friends," he said smiling.

"You know this ain't going to work at all, right?"

"Why not?" Devin asked.

"Shit, I been in jail for two damn years, and ya'll still don't get it?" he asked taking out his gold ones showing his white pearly teeth, "A guy and a girl can't be best friends, why? You gain feelings for each other. This right here is not going to be just best friends. It's going to be boyfriend and girlfriend and mommy and daddy. I bet you guys fucked on some romantic shit too, or ya'll was at a party and someone got a hold of too many drinks, and you guys live together? Oh, it's really about to go down decent."

Me and Devin looked at each other, and we both knew that it was somewhat true. We had sexual tension between us, but I didn't know if it was ever going anywhere.

"Aight, well ya'll figure that out." He got up, grabbed his bag, and threw it in the room across from mine's. "Ay, that girl Sandy still live down the block?"

"She not pregnant yet?" I asked.

"She better not be. I haven't had any pussy for seven-hundred and thirty days, and I'm horny."

"Naw, she ain't pregnant yet. She had an abortion last year though," Devin said.

After years of prison, I expected Kemarc to try and fuck any hoe.

"Shit, as long as it ain't me." He walked into the kitchen and search the drawer near the refrigerator. He was definitely looking for something.

"What you looking for?" Devin asked.

"A condom." He walked over and stood in front of Devin. "You got one?"

Devin reached in his pocket, pulled out a Magnum, and threw it at him. My eyes instantly shot over to him.

"What?" he asked staring me in my eyes.

"What you doing with a condom in your pocket?"

"Come on, ma, a man always got to walk around with a condom," Kemarc said.

"With or without a girl," Devin added.

"And remember, mama, you and Devin ain't together. He has authority to carry one." Kemarc put the Magnum in his pocket, and I just shook my head.

"I don't know what or why you want to fuck Sandy out of all people," Devin said.

"It's because the bitch is easy, and I just got out of jail. I know her ass been wanting to fuck a nigga ever since we moved into this bitch."

"Man, you right, ma nigga," Devin laughed.

I put my legs over him with my laptop balancing over my belly. I searched on my Facebook and saw around eight unread messages. One from Toya, one from Kristy punk-ass, and the rest from family, but I knew they were about me leaving the house. I read Toya's message, and she was asking me about why I left my mom's house. I didn't respond. I decided that I was going to deactivate my profile, and that's what I did. No more Facebook for me.

"What you doing over here?" Devin asked pulling my laptop screen down.

"I deactivated my Facebook account."

"Damn, that's a shocker. Why you do that?"

"People were already messaging me and writing on my wall about me leaving that damn lady's house."

"Your mom kicked you out the crib?" Kemarc asked.

"No, well, technically, I left."

"I mean that's how it is, ma. You bound to get kicked out the crib sooner or later especially if you don't see eye to eye with your loved ones. That's reality, mama."

I guess he was right, and I prayed that I would never have to go back home to my mother.
