Chapter Eleven
Charisma
I sat in class waiting for the bell to ring, so I could leave. My head was throbbing from the way Sharice took my head and banged it against the lockers. I was already having a rough day, but I couldn't stop thinking about Jarell. I didn't mean to leave him like that, but I couldn't take the drama. I had already forgiven Devin, but if his crazy-ass girlfriend stepped to me again, I was going to get Kristy to beat her.
When the bell finally rang, everybody in the hallway were looking at me and whispering.
"Hey, girl, where you going?" Toya asked trying to catch up to me.
"Class obviously," I said walking down the stairs. When I got to the bottom of the steps, I saw Devin. We both looked at each other, but we didn't stop to talk. I just walked by him to my next class.
"So what did you and Devin do?"
I immediately stopped in my tracks. "What you mean?"
"What you mean what I mean? Everybody saw you and Devin leave the fight and walk upstairs."
I put my head down and sighed. "Even Jarell?"
Toya nodded her head. "Even him."
Ugh! I knew I was going to be in deep trouble with Jarell when school ended because he didn't like Devin from the start, so I had to explain to him what happened when I went upstairs. As for Devin, I thought it would be for the best if we didn't talk for the rest of the day.
"This is all your fault, Toya," I said continuing to walk.
"My fault? How is it my fault?" she asked walking in front of me.
"If it wasn't for you bringing everybody who was invited to your party into the hallway, I wouldn't be in this predicament."
As the words left my lips, my phone started vibrating. I reached into my purse and grabbed my phone. It was a text from Devin and Jarell. Of course I read Jarell's first.
We need to talk ASAP.
I already knew that this was going to be our first real argument. Trying not to think about it, I went into my inbox again and read Devin's text.
We got a meeting at work in an hour. You need a ride?
I knew I had to talk to Jarell first since I had to go to this meeting. Ugh, the horror, so I texted Devin back. Sure, just give me a few minutes. I got to go talk to Jarell.
"Drama texts?" Toya asked.
"Yup, I got to go," I said rolling my eyes.
"Aight, bye, mama."
I walked down the hall to my locker and was surprised to see Jarell already standing there. I had no choice but to face the situation head on, so I walked over to him, and he gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"You wanted to talk to me?" I asked.
"Yeah, what did you and Devin do after the fight?" he asked angrily.
"Nothing."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, babe, I'm sure. We're just friends," I said opening my locker getting my work vest.
"I'm just looking out for you," he said closing my locker.
"Well, thanks, but Devin is not that type of dude."
"To you. Where you going anyway?" Jarell asked changing the subject.
"I got a meeting at work. I have to leave early."
"I could bring you."
"No, I'm fine. I'll take the bus," I said quickly.
"Love you," he said kissing me on the lips.
"I love you too."
"I'll talk to you tonight or something then," he said walking back into the school.
Well, that wasn't so bad? I thought that he was going to go crazy, but to be real, I knew Jarell wasn't that type of person. As I felt a sense of relief, I started walking to the parking lot to meet up with Devin, but he pulled up right beside me.
"You ready to go?" he asked.
"Yup." When I got into the car, he had the weirdest expression on his face. "What? Is there something on my face?"
He just cleared his throat and laughed. "No, it's nothing."
"Okay then," I said turning on the radio, "So where's little miss bitch at?"
"Man, we broke up."
I think that was a world record on shortest relationship in life. I didn't want to be rude, so I tried to act real sad.
"Awwwww, why?"
"Well, because me and you left together after the fight, she was acting all bitchy, and you know I don't like that shit, so we broke up."
On the inside, I wanted to laugh, but I knew that they weren't going to last that long. No matter how hard she tried, Devin was going to break up with her. I knew him.
